Principal's Message
Welcome to our Week 8 newsletter!
Lunches
Firstly a reminder that students are not allowed to bring metal cutlery to school. Please send along disposable or reuseable plastic options.
Secondly, can your child open the packet? Please ensure if you are giving your child pre-packaged food that they can open it. Unfortunately, staff on duty may not have time to open the packaging for all students.
EVERY DAY COUNTS… Frequently asked questions
Do I need to let the school know if my child has been away?
Yes – Parents must let the school know the reason for the absence, if not beforehand, then within two days of their child’s return to school.
Can I take my child out of school for family or social occasions?
No – you should arrange leisure activities, visits to family and friends and shopping trips outside of school hours.
Does the occasional day away from school really affect my child’s education?
Yes – Research shows that in Queensland, higher student attendance is associated, on average, with higher student achievement.
What should I do if my child refuses to go to school?
Contact the school as soon as possible for advice and support.
Early Collection of Students
If you have an appointment or need to collect your student/s early, please send a note for the classroom teacher so the student/s can be sent to the office at the appropriate time. Please also remember that only adults listed as emergency contacts on the applicable student profile, are able to collect them.
Emergency Contacts
Please ensure the school has up to date information regarding emergency contacts so that you can be reached if an illness or accident should occur.
Lost Property
Our lost property collection is growing again! Please check our lost property area in the large covered area, to claim any of your children's missing belongings.
Reporting
Report Cards will be distributed on Friday, 19 July and no parent teacher interviews will be offered as part of this process. However, you are reminded that you can request a meeting with your child’s teacher any day about any concern that you have. Our staff email list can be found on our website, or via the link below.
Drop Zone Reminder
The drop zone at the front of the school was established so that there is a safe area for dropping off and collecting students, before and after school.
Did you know it is loading zone between 8 & 9am and 2.30pm & 3.30pm?
Did you know the fine for parking in a loading zone is $154.00?
Did you know traffic infringements can be reported by members of the public through PoliceLink and video evidence used to allow Qld Police to issue a fine?
The drop zone needs to be operated in exactly the manner it is intended for in order to keep everyone safe......DROP your children off in the morning / PICK UP your children in the afternoon. It is NOT an area for parking and getting out of your car to walk your children in or to chat to other parents. Students should not be walking across any open area of the road by themselves. There is plenty of parking space on other boundaries of the school. There are far too many near misses happening.
Please be considerate and obey the rules, for everyone's sake.
Enjoy your weekend!

Every Day Counts - Attendance
Regular, punctual attendance at school is expected of all students.
Students should be present at school ready to prepare for the day's learning by 8:30am.
Late Arrivals
Students arriving after 8:50am must report to the office to receive a lateslip. If a student is late, a letter of explanation from the student's parent/guardian must be presented to the office staff on arrival.
Absence
If a student is absent and the parent/guardian has not notified the school, they will receive an automated text message by 10am that day.
Parents will receive a text message informing them that their child is absent. If you receive one of these text messages, please contact the school to explain the reason for your child’s absence.
A working mobile number should be registered with the school, if available.
Please remember that absence is only marked for the days specified by the parents. If you ring up on a Monday informing that your child is sick and they remain away from school for the following 2 days because they are sick you need to inform us that this was the reason for their absence. You can inform us after the absence via a message directly to the teacher or by contacting our absence hotline or email.
If your child is absent, please leave a message detailing:
- Child's name
- Class
- Reason for absence
- Dates or duration of absence

PBL - Positive Behaviour for Learning
In Week 7, we looked at being respectful and making sure we include everyone.
This week, we looked at being responsible and making sure we accept responsibility.
Below are the 'for families' poster of our lessons, which gives you a chance to continue these conversations at home and possibly apply them to your daily family life.
Congratulations to our Week 7 Snappy Draw winner.....Willow!
Congratulations to our Week 8 Snappy Draw winner....Aubree!
Our weekly $10 'Golden Snap' draw for Week 7, went to Zion!
.....and here's our weekly $10 'Golden Snap' draw winner for Week 8, Nora!
Principal's Awards
This week we had the amazing privilege of awarding two Principal's Awards - both nominated by members of the community.
Zander was observed picking up the lost property that had been strewn over the place and arranging it neatly on the bench. Zander also noticed the labelled hat of a child that he knew and returned the hat to the child. Thank you, Zander, for being respectful of others' property and wanting to see our school neat and tidy.
Quade put himself before others and helped younger students across the pedestrian crossing when the supervisor wasn't present. Quade was observed using a polite tone and acknowledging that cars that had stopped for them. Thank you, Quade, for being a responsible and safe student and being willing to help others out.
Bullying....no way!
So, now we understand what bullying is and how to help identify children who may be suffering from, or being the instigators of bullying, what can we do to help them?
Here are some worksheets that may help children process and move through what's happening.
Uniform Reminder
As the cool weather approaches the Cranbrook P&C have reinforced that Cranbrook State School is a UNIFORM school. This includes the winter uniform of jumpers and jackets and if purchased now will maximise the use and provide value for money.
The Cranbrook P&C were very conscious as to not ask the school to enforce the winter uniform policy when the jacket was the only available option, due to the higher cost. However, they have now had the economical fleece jumper option available for three years and as such, have now moved to have these requirements enforced.
For the remainder of this term and into Term 3, for students who are not wearing the winter uniform:
- Students will receive a paper note to take home to parents reminding them of the school’s uniform expectation
- Parents will be contacted by phone by their Year Level Principal (Jeff Capell – Prep, Yr 2, Yr 4 & Yr 6 & Kyle Sanim – Yr 1, Yr 3 & Yr 5) to discuss the uniform expectations, if students are continually without the winter uniform
Thank you to those parents who have been able to ensure their child represents the school with pride by wearing the school’s Winter Uniform Policy.
The Uniform Shop is open each morning from 8-9am and payment may be made by cash or card. Alternatively, you can order via the P&C’s Big Commerce website and the purchase will be delivered to your child's classroom.
The school jacket is $45. The school jumper is $30.
The website is: https://cranbrook-state-school-pc-association.mybigcommerce.com/
*****************************************
For students who have a Cranbrook Jacket or Jumper, they will be rewarded with a 'snap' each day and will go in the whole school draw each week, to win a $5 tuckshop voucher.
Congratulations to our first recipent, Ben!
Cranbrook jumpers/jackets
Cranbrook jumpers and jackets are a part of our compulsory uniform. Not only are they necessary for the cooler weather, they are also handy to have in the airconditioned classrooms - no matter what time of the year. Our P&C have worked hard to be able to offer you two lovely, good quality and practical options.
The jacket is light, windproof and spray proof, has two zipped hand pockets and is lined with soft knit material, making it ideal for wearing at any time. The cost is $45.
The fleece pullover also has two zipped hand pockets and a zip near the neck, allowing the child to protect their neck in the cold but gives the option of having some extra air if it's getting a bit warm. This is our more economical option at $30.

Interest Groups
While the sports groups were happening, back at school, we run interest groups such as Junior School helpers, Library assistants and Coding!
In our Coding Interest Group students learn basic coding through completing challenges on Scratch, Code.org and Minecraft. Learning coding through platforms like these offers students a multitude of benefits, fostering essential skills for the digital age. These platforms make coding accessible and engaging, turning complex concepts into interactive and enjoyable experiences. Code.org provides structured lessons that build foundational programming knowledge, while Scratch allows for creative expression through visual coding, enabling students to see the immediate impact of their code in animations and games. Minecraft, with its immersive environment, encourages problem-solving and collaboration as students design and build virtual worlds using code. Together, these platforms enhance critical thinking, creativity, and persistence, equipping students with the tools to succeed in various fields and adapt to an increasingly tech-driven world.

Challenge Games 2024
For students with a disability, The Challenge Games provides a wonderful opportunity for children with a disability to play games, have fun and compete against other children of the same ability level – without the feeling of being conspicuous or ‘different’.
Cranbrook is registered to attend the Challenge Games on Wednesday 24th July 2024 (the 1st day of the 2 day event). There is a limited number of places (20) for this event due to the seats in our school bus. The students attending will be supervised by SEP Teachers and Teacher Aides. The cost is $10 per student.
If you would like your student with a disability to attend, please contact the Office and register.
Parents are welcome to attend and register for the 2nd day and attend with their child, independent of the school. Please use the Challenge Games registration link: https://thechallengegames.com.au/register/parent-registration/
