Principal's Message
Welcome to our Week 6 Newsletter!
We encourage you to read through carefully to ensure you don’t miss any important updates or upcoming events.
Strengthening supports for families through Parentline
Parentline is a free, confidential service that school staff can confidently recommend to parents and carers for early support with behaviour, bullying and wellbeing concerns. Available from 6am to midnight, it offers professional advice to ease pressure before issues escalate. Access resources to promote Parentline in your school’s newsletters, social media and conversations.
Uniform Reminder
We kindly remind parents to ensure that students have a spare school uniform, including underwear and socks, packed in their school bag each day. This helps us manage any unexpected accidents or spills that may occur throughout the day. Please note that the office has limited spare uniform items available to loan.
Stay Connected with Us!
Please take a moment to check your email junk or trash folders to ensure you’re receiving all of our newsletters and newsflashes. These updates include important details such as event dates, times, and activities that you and your child may wish to be involved in.
We also encourage you to follow our school’s Facebook page, where we share multiple posts daily about upcoming events and activities.
If you are not receiving any emails from us, please contact us at communications@cranbrookss.eq.edu.au so we can assist.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Snappy Winners🐊

This weeks Snappy Winner was Theo! Congratulations!
Every Day Counts - Attendance ✔✔✔
Regular, punctual attendance at school is expected of all students.
Students should be present at school ready to prepare for the day's learning by 8:30am.

Late Arrivals
Students arriving after 8:50am must report to the office to receive a lateslip. If a student is late, a letter of explanation from the student's parent/guardian must be presented to the office staff on arrival.
Absence
If a student is absent and the parent/guardian has not notified the school, they will receive an automated text message by 10am that day.
Parents will receive a text message informing them that their child is absent. If you receive one of these text messages, please contact the school to explain the reason for your child’s absence.
A working mobile number should be registered with the school, if available.
Please remember that absence is only marked for the days specified by the parents. If you ring up on a Monday informing that your child is sick and they remain away from school for the following 2 days because they are sick you need to inform us that this was the reason for their absence. You can inform us after the absence via a message directly to the teacher or by contacting our absence hotline or email.
If your child is absent, please leave a message detailing:
- Child's name
- Class
- Reason for absence
- Dates or duration of absence
Absence Hotline - 4726 1260

🏐From the Sports Desk🏈
Update from Monday's Les Stagg Competition! The score was 32-8. Great overall team performance with some stand out defence from Yarren, and some fantastic running from Tyson , Ezekiel and Melanie.
Next weeks game is at Brothers Leagues Club again, Monday night at 7:15pm against Holy Spirit.
We will see the return of super star coach Conor James Morgan Wilson. Should be exciting.

We are so proud of Danielle, who recently travelled to Mackay to compete in the NQ Regional Championships for Gymnastics in WAG Level 4. Danielle performed exceptionally well, achieving:
5th on Vault
2nd on Bars
1st on Floor with an outstanding score of 9.5/10 – an incredible achievement in gymnastics!
3rd Overall for her age group
This success follows her strong performance at a previous competition in Atherton, where she placed 2nd on Floor and qualified for the upcoming State Championships in Brisbane this September. Congratulations, Danielle, on your continued improvement and commitment to your sport – what a fantastic achievement!
We also want to celebrate the amazing efforts of our athletes at the interschool track events last Thursday. Danielle placed 3rd in Division 1 for both the 100m and 200m sprints – an impressive result! A big congratulations also goes to the 10-year-old girls relay team, who stormed home to claim 1st place. What an epic race to watch – you should all be so proud!
Deadly Choices
Good Quick Tukka is a cooking education program, which believes that anyone can learn how to cook something – they just have to give it a try.
One of the fundamental principles of positive health relates to a person’s selection, preparation and consumption of wholesome, nutritious foods.
The Deadly Choices Good Quick Tukka program adopts a holistic approach, designed to deter unhealthy eating practices presented in the form of takeaway, deep-fried and sugary foods and drinks.
We seek to increase the number of healthy meals being prepared at home among community.
The program explores a healthy balance of the vital food groups, growing understanding of the role food plays in a person’s overall wellbeing, and providing participants the necessary tools to plan, prepare and cook meals that contribute to a lifelong healthy lifestyle.

The students had the best time last week with Mr Codee learning and then creating their own healthy Ham and Salad Wraps! This week they made healthy Fruit Smoothies and also did a blind tasting of some fresh berries! They Students had turns having a blind fold on and trying either a Strawberry, Blueberry or Raspberry! This encouraged students to not be hesitant to try new things!
NAIDOC WEEK
Our school proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week, a time to recognise and honour the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Students enjoyed a range of hands-on activities including rock painting, boomerang throwing, and fun sports games. They also had the chance to learn about traditional instruments such as the didgeridoo, along with exploring other musical items, straw buckets and hats. It was a wonderful day of learning, sharing, and celebrating the richness of the world’s oldest continuing culture.

As part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations, our school held a Kup Murri, a traditional Torres Strait Islander style of cooking in an underground earth oven. The delicious meal was made even more special with the support of the Zaro family, who generously helped prepare and cook the meats, damper, and Sup Sup for everyone to share. It was a wonderful experience that brought our school community together to celebrate culture, tradition, and connection.

A massive thank you to all of these students for their dedication and commitment in preparing for NAIDOC Week. They gave up most of their lunch times to ensure everything was organised, and their hard work truly showed. Not only did they help behind the scenes, but they were also absolutely amazing at running the NAIDOC activities throughout the week. Their energy, leadership, and enthusiasm made the celebrations extra special for everyone involved, and we are so proud of the way they represented our school community.
On Thursday we had our official opening of our brand-new General Learning Area Block. We were honoured to have with us Senator Nit Green., Assistant Minister of Northern, Tourism and Pacific Island Affairs, Townsville City Councillor Andrew Robinson, Andrew Crosby North Queensland Regional Office Representative and past student and NQ Cowboys player Mr Ray Thompson.
The day marked the culmination of the important project for Cranbrook State School - the demolition of three asbestos demountable classroom buildings, comprising six outdated classrooms, and the construction of the modern, purpose-built General Learning Area Block. This project was driven by three critical needs - Safety - The removal of asbestos ensures a safe and secure environment for our students and staff, Modernisation - Our former classrooms no longer supported the delivery of a contemporary curriculum. These new facilities are quipped for technology-rich, future-focused learning. Enhanced Educational Experience - The design of this new block provides collaborative, flexible spaces that encourage creativity, problem-solving, and a love for learning.

BOOK WEEK!

This week we celebrated BOOK WEEK!
Our students had a wonderful time joining in with the fun lunchtime activities and the exciting Friday Dress-Up Day. It was fantastic to see so many creative and adventurous costumes inspired by their favourite storybooks! Preps also had a wonderful time having their Rhym Crime! The students also got to have a go at guessing how many book worms are in the Jar and join in on a Book Week Colouring in Competition!

Special Children's Christmas Party

Staff Goodbye's
It is always bittersweet to say farewell to a valued member of our school community. Recently, we celebrated the retirement of the wonderful Mrs Fossey after 20+ years here at Cranbrook and Queensland Education, who has decided it is time to enjoy the next chapter of her life. We marked the occasion with a lovely morning tea in the staffroom, where colleagues shared heartfelt words of gratitude, wisdom, and appreciation for the many years they have worked alongside her. We wish Mrs Fossey all the very best in her retirement and look forward to welcoming her back for visits in the future.

Class Borrowing Days
For students in Prep / Year 1 / Year 2 / Year 3…..you must have a library bag to protect your books.
It is very important that books are returned every week.
Students are not allowed to borrow more books until any outstanding ones are returned.
Please return your child’s home reader and library books on the following days:

The Cranbrook Community Hub 👋

Hello everyone. Doesn't time fly!
The Hub is our adult space. We want our parents/carers to use it for what they need – a bit of rest and respite, a place to safely talk, where to go to meet up with fellow class families and to meet new ones, a place to enjoy activities you may not ordinarily do.
We had a fun Friday last week, as we celebrated NAIDOC. Our Hub became a hive of activity all day long with lots of great chats, morning tea, craft, damper preparation and the final touches of the Kup Murri, all taking place across the hours. Thanks to those who joined us!
This week we had the privilege of having solicitor Hannah sit in with our Gen M morning and have a chat about all things legal. Sound scary? Well, it absolutely wasn't, due to Hannah's kind and caring way of sharing legal knowledge and pointing some of us in the right direction. She was even able to save one couple a trip to the JP to sign a document! We'll have Hannah back again in Term 4. If, in the meantime, you need legal advice and would like to engage with a Solicitor, please get in touch and we can pass on Hannah's details.
Have a great weekend and hope to see many of you in The Hub next week!

Honouring two decades of advocacy |
Today we unveil ‘Don’t Waste It’ - The Daniel Morcombe Story, a powerful documentary film reflecting on two decades of child safety advocacy from The Daniel Morcombe Foundation. This powerful 30-minute documentary honours Daniel’s legacy and educates teens on personal safety. This film is quite different to all the others we regularly share with you. Heritage Films has had the honour to produce Don't Waste It as part of the Foundation’s incredible 20-year celebrations. What an incredible legacy and what a wonderful way to honour Daniel, Bruce and Denise and the Foundation’s legacy for the way they have tirelessly worked to keep children safe.
