Principal's Message
Welcome to our Week 10 Newsletter!
We encourage you to read through carefully to ensure you don’t miss any important updates or upcoming events.
Communicating with your child's school
The department is committed to open, respectful, and positive communication with parents and carers, as a vital part of supporting your child's learning, wellbeing and development.
To strengthen partnerships with families, the department continues to celebrate student achievements, share learning progress, respond promptly to important concerns, communicate absences, manage consent and payments, provide regular school updates, and invite your feedback and involvement.
To support positive communication between schools and families, a new resource has been developed that outlines shared expectations around what, how, and when schools and families communicate. This resource is designed to help foster mutual understanding and proactive collaboration.
For more information and to view the resource, please refer to:
Contact your child's school
Follow the school's process for communicating with them—as a parent, your needs and concerns are important to your child's school. Schools have communication processes set up so your needs can be met by the right person as quickly as possible.
Know the outcome you want—before you contact your child's school, be clear about your needs and have some ideas about how the school can help. Make sure you begin the conversation when you're in a clear head space so you can have a constructive conversation about taking action.
Organise a time in advance—school staff want to support your child's learning and wellbeing. But, just like you, they can have limited time and juggle many priorities. Allow staff time to prepare so they can better support your family.
Plan next steps—if more communication with your child's school is needed, ask about how and when this will happen. Accommodate their needs where you can, to make the process happen as smoothly as possible.
Keep your contact details up-to-date—make sure your child's school has details on the best way to contact you.
Be patient—school staff might not be able to respond to your request immediately—but that doesn't mean you're not important to them. Allow staff to have boundaries around their communication and give them reasonable time to respond.
Be polite and respectful—when communicating with school staff, in writing or in person, be polite. School staff deserve to be treated with respect because they, just like you, want the best outcomes for your child. Be considerate of how you're speaking and the impact it can have on the staff.
Be a team player—your child's school is on your team when it comes to supporting your child. Be open to new ideas and be prepared that you might need to compromise to reach an agreement. You and your child's school have different kinds of expertise when it comes to raising your child, and that expertise can be much more powerful when combined.

Have a great winter break everyone.

Snappy Winners🐊

Congratulations! The Snappy winner for week 9 was Evelyn!

Congratulations! The Golden Snappy winner for week 9 was Anastasia!
Winter Snap Winner!
The week 9 Winter Snap Winner was Gloria! Congratulations!
A reminder that we have 2 options for your students when it comes to wearing the correct school jumper.
The jacket is light, windproof and spray proof, has two zipped hand pockets and is lined with soft knit material, making it ideal for wearing at any time. The cost is $50.
The fleece pullover also has two zipped hand pockets and a zip near the neck, allowing the child to protect their neck in the cold but gives the option of having some extra air if it's getting a bit warm. This is our more economical option at $30.

Every Day Counts - Attendance ✔✔✔
Regular, punctual attendance at school is expected of all students.
Students should be present at school ready to prepare for the day's learning by 8:30am.

Late Arrivals
Students arriving after 8:50am must report to the office to receive a lateslip. If a student is late, a letter of explanation from the student's parent/guardian must be presented to the office staff on arrival.
Absence
If a student is absent and the parent/guardian has not notified the school, they will receive an automated text message by 10am that day.
Parents will receive a text message informing them that their child is absent. If you receive one of these text messages, please contact the school to explain the reason for your child’s absence.
A working mobile number should be registered with the school, if available.
Please remember that absence is only marked for the days specified by the parents. If you ring up on a Monday informing that your child is sick and they remain away from school for the following 2 days because they are sick you need to inform us that this was the reason for their absence. You can inform us after the absence via a message directly to the teacher or by contacting our absence hotline or email.
If your child is absent, please leave a message detailing:
- Child's name
- Class
- Reason for absence
- Dates or duration of absence
Absence Hotline - 4726 1260
Absence Email - absences@cranbrookss.eq.edu.au
👍PBL - Positive Behaviour for Learning👍
Last week, our PBL was about respecting others' privacy and property
This week, we looked at being Resilient!
Below is the 'for families' poster of our lessons, which gives you a chance to continue these conversations at home and possibly apply them to your daily family life.
🔥 Fire Safety Fun for Year 1! 🚒
Our Year 1 students had an exciting visit from the local firefighters this week! They were thrilled to explore the fire truck, learn about the important work firefighters do, and even got the chance to shoot the fire hose. It was a fun and educational experience that sparked lots of smiles and curiosity!

Year 2 Life Cycles
This term, our Year 2 students have been exploring life cycles through hands-on experiences that brought their learning to life! As part of our Science unit, students planted and nurtured their own seeds, observing the stages of plant growth from sprout to seedling. Alongside this, we incubated chicken eggs, carefully monitoring the process until three fluffy chicks hatched—an exciting and unforgettable moment for everyone! These practical activities helped students deepen their understanding of how living things grow and change over time.

Athletics Carnival
We had an absolutely fantastic day at our Athletics Carnival! The energy, sportsmanship, and team spirit on display from all our students was truly inspiring. It was wonderful to see everyone getting involved, cheering each other on, and giving their best effort across all events.
A massive thank you to Mrs Woods and Mr Stockman for their incredible organisation and leadership, your hard work behind the scenes made the entire day run so smoothly and ensured it was such a huge success!
The sausage sizzle was also a crowd favourite, keeping everyone fuelled and happy throughout the day. A big shout-out and heartfelt thank you to our amazing P&C for running the BBQ and supporting our school community in such a delicious way!
Thank you to all the staff, volunteers, and families who helped make the day so memorable — we couldn’t have done it without you!

We have exciting news about one of our students!
Elijah will be travelling to compete in Brisbane for the State Championships Cross Country Race!!
We wish you the best of luck Elijah!

Today our Cranbrook U/12 Rugby League team participated in the Bill Nettle Challenge. Cranbrook had three wins to start the day against Bohlevale, Cathedral and Mundingburra. The team then went down to eventual winners, Rasmussen in the semi final. The team fought hard and showed great resilience playing the competition with only 11 players. Our U/12 team now turn there focus to the Les Stagg Trophy which will be played on Monday nights beginning in the middle of Term 3.

State of Origin!
Last Wednesday we had so much fun dressing in our State of Origin Colours and showing our support!

Adopt-A-Cowboy!
On Tuesday our Adopt-A-School Cowboy Mason Kira visited the school. He discussed the importance of preparation and training in Rugby League, making the link between the importance of rehearsing for the musical. After joining in with students from 4A and 5A in some musical dances Mason then joined students from 3C where he played noodle tag. He even signed some signatures to conclude his visit. All the students loved having Mason visit, he interacted well with the students and we look forward to seeing him again next term.

A BIG thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Book Fair another great success! From the enthusiastic shoppers to the dedicated staff and volunteers who gave their time and energy, we truly couldn’t have done it without you.
Your support helps put more books into the hands of our students and encourages a love of reading across the school. It was wonderful to see the excitement on students’ faces as they browsed, made wish lists, and found new favourites to take home.
Thank you again for helping create such a positive and inspiring event for our school community!
The Cranbrook Community Hub 👋
It has been a lovely end to a short 4 weeks for me back in The Hub. Thank you to those who have supported us, those who have popped in to say hi and those who have attended the various activities we’ve had. It’s been great to see some old and some new faces.
As you will see below, we have a few new things planned for our parent/carer space in Term 3. Remember, it is a space for YOU – the adults of our school community. Please let us know what you would like to see in your Hub. Drop me a line at communityhub@cranbrookss.eq.edu.au or call/text on 0477004723.

Honouring two decades of advocacy |
Today we unveil ‘Don’t Waste It’ - The Daniel Morcombe Story, a powerful documentary film reflecting on two decades of child safety advocacy from The Daniel Morcombe Foundation. This powerful 30-minute documentary honours Daniel’s legacy and educates teens on personal safety. This film is quite different to all the others we regularly share with you. Heritage Films has had the honour to produce Don't Waste It as part of the Foundation’s incredible 20-year celebrations. What an incredible legacy and what a wonderful way to honour Daniel, Bruce and Denise and the Foundation’s legacy for the way they have tirelessly worked to keep children safe.
