Principal's Message
Welcome back everyone to our next weeks of learning in Term Three.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend a very warm Cranbrook welcome to our new families who are joining us this Term.
It is always wonderful to see all newcomers settle in so quickly and adapt to our daily routines and culture. Term Three is always one of the busiest in every school year. There will no doubt be other activities and events along the way to keep us even busier. If you are not yet following us via Social Media, I encourage you to like our school Facebook page as another way to keep abreast of our news.
Extra Curricula Activities
Our wonderful array of activities for Term 3 have begun. Please let your children know about the activities, especially the extra lunch time ones:
Learn AUSLAN - Wednesday 2nd break in the 3D classroom
Soccer Skills - Thursday 1st break on the grassed area behind the library, beside the 2/3 playground
Scrabble - Tuesday 2nd break in the Year 4 middle room
Reporting
Report Cards will be distributed today by email and paper copy. While no official parent teacher interviews are offered as part of this process, please know that you can request a meeting with your child’s teacher any day about any concern that you have. Our staff email list can be found on our website, or via the link below.
Year 5 & 6 students: Please note that the students' Japanese results will be emailed directly from Cairns School of Distant Education to parents early in Term 3.
Procedures for Ensuring Safety
Parents and carers, a reminder to please ensure that:
- you sign your children in through the office if they are late to school,
- you sign them out if you need to collect them early (including from sick bay), and
- you sign them in and out if they are out of school for a period of time during the day.
You will be issued with an Early Departure/Exit Slip from our system when you report to the office to collect your child. Teachers will be instructed not to release children who have not presented with the Early Departure/Exit Slip. This is very important to track where children are, and also for our official record keeping.
Daily Absence Notification
Queensland state schools are required to advise parents/carers when their child is absent without explanation as soon as practicable on that day, allowing time for parents/carers to respond before the end of the school day. Are you receiving your text message when your child is absent? If not, please contact the school to update your contact information.
Parents can reply text the reason for their child's absence and then you won't need to write a note or call our Absence Hotline.

Students arriving after 8:50am must report to the office to receive a lateslip. If a student is late, a letter of explanation from the student's parent/guardian must be presented to the office staff on arrival.
Absence
If a student is absent and the parent/guardian has not notified the school, they will receive an automated text message by 10am that day.
Parents will receive a text message informing them that their child is absent. If you receive one of these text messages, please contact the school to explain the reason for your child’s absence.
A working mobile number should be registered with the school, if available.
Please remember that absence is only marked for the days specified by the parents. If you ring up on a Monday informing that your child is sick and they remain away from school for the following 2 days because they are sick you need to inform us that this was the reason for their absence. You can inform us after the absence via a message directly to the teacher or by contacting our absence hotline or email.

PBL - Positive Behaviour for Learning
Starting the term off again, we looked at being responsible and making sure we follow routines and transitions.
This week, we looked at being safe and remembering how we must be safe all the time.
Below are the 'for families' poster of our lessons, which gives you a chance to continue these conversations at home and possibly apply them to your daily family life.
Since it was a whole school parade to start the term off, we had 2 lucky winners.
Congratulations to Sharma!
Congratulations to Emma!
In Week 2, our snappy winner was Zion!
Our weekly $10 'Golden Snap' draw for Week 1, went to Mia
and for Week 2, it was Olivia. (no photo)
Uniform Reminder
As the cool weather approaches the Cranbrook P&C have reinforced that Cranbrook State School is a UNIFORM school. This includes the winter uniform of jumpers and jackets.
Thank you to those parents who have been able to ensure their child represents the school with pride by wearing the school’s Winter Uniform.
For those who haven't yet purchased a jacket or jumper, the Uniform Shop is open each morning from 8-9am and payment may be made by cash or card. Alternatively, you can order via the P&C’s Big Commerce website and the purchase will be delivered to your child's classroom.
The school jacket is $45. The school jumper is $30.
The website is: https://cranbrook-state-school-pc-association.mybigcommerce.com/

Each day students have a Cranbrook Jacket or Jumper with them, they will receive a 'snap' and go in the whole school draw for a chance to win a $5 tuckshop voucher each week.

Class Borrowing Days
For students in Prep / Year 1 / Year 2 / Year 3…..you must have a library bag to protect your books.
It is very important that books are returned every week.
Students are not allowed to borrow more books until any outstanding ones are returned.
Please return your child’s home reader and library books on the following days:
Book Review
A Book Review by Year 1 student, Christopher, on the book 'Walk with Us'.
Christopher, please give us a summary of the book - It is about a young boy and his Mum going for a walk to their favourite park. Then they saw Uncle Boris and followed him to the beach.
Which characters in the book did you like the most and why? I like Harvey because he found a wallaby.
What did you learn from reading this book? I learned Aboriginal language for different plants.
Will you recommend this book to your friends? If so, why? Yes because I can't believe he found a wallaby!
Thanks Christopher - that was awesome! Walk with Us is now in our library and available to borrow from the Junior Fiction section.
Don't forget about the Premier's Reading Challenge!
The PRC is not a competition but a way to encourage students to develop a love of reading for life. Students are encouraged to select a range of fiction and non-fiction books suited to their reading ability and record books read during the reading period, from 7 May to 23 August.
Thanks to all those students who have already sent back their forms.
Please find both the letter and the form, available to download via the link, below.
