Regular, punctual attendance at school is expected of all students.
Students should be present at school ready to prepare for the day's learning by 8:30am.
Late Arrivals
Students arriving after 8:50am must report to the office to receive a lateslip. If a student is late, a letter of explanation from the student's parent/guardian must be presented to the office staff on arrival.
Absence
If a student is absent and the parent/guardian has not notified the school, they will receive an automated text message by 10am that day.
Parents will receive a text message informing them that their child is absent. If you receive one of these text messages, please contact the school to explain the reason for your child’s absence.
A working mobile number should be registered with the school, if available.
Please remember that absence is only marked for the days specified by the parents. If you ring up on a Monday informing that your child is sick and they remain away from school for the following 2 days because they are sick you need to inform us that this was the reason for their absence. You can inform us after the absence via a message directly to the teacher or by contacting our absence hotline or email.
If your child is absent, please leave a message detailing:
- Child's name
- Class
- Reason for absence
- Dates or duration of absence
Absence Hotline - 4726 1260

PBL - Positive Behaviour for Learning
In Week 7 we looked at being respectful and learning how to include everyone.
This week, we looked at being responsible and accepting responsibility.
Below are the 'for families' poster of our lessons, which gives you a chance to continue these conversations at home and possibly apply them to your daily family life.
Congratulations to Week 7's Snappy Draw winner, Student F!
(no draw for week 8)
Our week 7 $10 'Golden Snap' draw, went to Cecelia!
(no draw for week 8)

If you didn't get to see our musical, you definitely missed out on something special! Keep a lookout for our dedicated photo email soon!
Eisteddfod 2024
We now move on to the Eisteddfod that begins this coming Monday, 2 September.
Please read the attached note for all the details, except the Songbird Choir that needs to note this extra information:
The Songbird Choir is involved in a performance on Friday 6 September, where they will be singing a song about their messy bedroom.
Students will need a costume that is simply a t-shirt and shorts/leggings of any colour but MUST cover their midriff when their arms are raised. Please also have messy hair and/or lopsided piggy tails. They will also have brown makeup smeared on their faces just before the performance, just to add another feature of 'dirtiness'.
We do understand that it is a free dress day on the same day. Students will need to come to school in the choir outfit and then change to their free dress day costume afterwards.
If you have any concerns, please email Mrs Onslow at sjohn152@eq.edu.au as soon as possible.
Thanks so much for your support!

Year 1 Fire Fighter Visit
We’re thrilled to share that our Year 1 students had an absolutely fantastic time with the recent visit from our local firefighters! The excitement in the air was palpable as the firefighters taught the children all about fire safety through engaging demonstrations and hands-on activities. Our young learners absorbed valuable lessons while having a blast. The highlight of the day was when each student got to have a turn with the fire hose and ask questions about the firefighters’ heroic work. It was an afternoon filled with smiles, laughter, and important life lessons, making it a memorable experience for all involved. Thank you to our amazing firefighters for making fire safety both fun and educational!

Class Borrowing Days
For students in Prep / Year 1 / Year 2 / Year 3…..you must have a library bag to protect your books.
It is very important that books are returned every week.
Students are not allowed to borrow more books until any outstanding ones are returned.
Please return your child’s home reader and library books on the following days:
Book Week 'Reading is Magic'
Book Week’s "Reading is Magic" theme turned our school into a fantastical realm of imagination and joy as both students and teachers embraced the fun by dressing up as their favourite book characters! From whimsical witches and brave adventurers to fantastical creatures, the creative costumes brought beloved stories to life and added an extra spark to the week’s activities. This vibrant display of school spirit not only highlighted the magic of reading but also strengthened our community through shared fun and creativity. It was a truly memorable celebration that showcased the joy of books and the power of imagination.
Book Week Colouring in Winners!
Our "Reading is Magic" colouring competition was a magical highlight of Book Week. Each child embraced their creativity, bringing to life whimsical colouring in inspired by the ‘reading is magic’ theme. The vibrant artwork of our chosen winners and highly commended students is now available to see in our library! It was incredible to see how each entry reflected the unique way students experience the magic of stories. The competition not only sparked artistic flair but also reinforced the joy and wonder that reading can bring. Thank you to all the participants for their colourful contributions.

Book Week Activities
Book Week was truly enchanting at our library, where we brought the theme "Reading is Magic" to life with a series of thrilling activities! Each playtime was filled with excitement as two mystery students were chosen to pop a balloon, uncovering a special prize inside. The anticipation and joy on the children's faces as they discovered their prizes added an extra layer of fun to their playtime experience. From wonderfully whimsical wand making, to peculiar potion pictures the students created. The students and staff had such a great week helping each other bring back the magic to creating and reading.
Indigenous Youth Parliament
Yesterday, 10 of our Indigenous students from Year 5 & 6 had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the Regional Indigenous Youth Parliament. Under the guidance of some of our head staff, the students were given broad topics from the Parliamentary Committee, to take on board and make their own informative and persuasive speech to 'Parliament'. Some of our students were given a 'title', such as Minister for Youth Sport and everyone was assigned an 'electorate' to be a part of, all referenced to notable Indigenous persons, such as Member for Mabo or Member for Namatjira. Every single one of our students represented themselves and their school extremely well, despite some nerves! It has to be said though, the highlight of the day was definitely watching the Melbourne Storm players have a kick around right beside us!
A big thanks to Queensland Parliament, local politicians and the Mercure Inn, for hosting this great event.
Below are some activity sheets that everyone can enjoy and learn more about our Queensland Parliament.
