Principal's Message
Welcome to our Week 10 Newsletter! Be sure to read through so you don’t miss any important updates.
The staff carpark is for staff
Please do not park in there when picking up your children after school. Parents are reminded that the school staff car park is not a safe place for children to be delivered or collected from school. If you do need to legitimately come into the school carpark, please remember not to park in our designated bus areas.
A reminder also, that dropping students off on or near the pedestrian crossing on Bergin Road is also very unsafe as it endangers the lives of children using the crossing correctly.
Important Update! Before School Supervision
School Access and Supervision Requirements
At Cranbrook State School the safety and wellbeing of our students is our highest priority. To ensure that all students are adequately supervised and protected while on school grounds, a decision has been made to change the school’s access policies and supervision arrangements. Namely, in 2025 the change will be the FRONT GATE opening time allowing students to access the front under covered entry.
In accordance with the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 (Qld) and the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Qld), our school has a duty of care to provide a safe learning environment. This duty of care extends to ensuring that students are appropriately supervised before official school hours.
To support parents in this change, we will implement a gradual change to the entry times in accessing the front under covered entry:
- Term 2 - 7.30am
- Term 3 - 7.45am
- Term 4 - 8.00am
During Term 4 2025, a decision will be made regarding further delaying the access to the school grounds before school as the six staff rostered on from 8.00am to 8.50am equates to 1500minutes/25hours or $875/week or $35000/year in wages to provide this service, rather than core business operations that directly support educational outcome of students. We are aware that further delays will present implications for some of our current extra-curricular activities that the school offers, hence why we will take our time and engage in wide parent consultation to determine all the implications before making a final decision at the end of the year.
These measures will be put in place to ensure the safety of all students and to comply with legal obligations. Parents and guardians who require before or after-school care options are encouraged to contact TheirCare for further information on available programs.
We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that students remain safe at all times. If you have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact the school office at 4726 1222. The change is also a motion on notice at the next P&C meeting which will be on Wednesday 2nd April (to allow parents and citizens to discuss the changes and raise any concerns before implementation from Term 2 onwards.
Thank you for your ongoing support in maintaining a safe and secure school environment.
Term 2 commences on Tuesday 22nd April
Smoking is prohibited
Smoking is banned at all Queensland state and non-state schools (school facilities), and for 5 metres beyond their boundaries and at all school carparks, including carparks located on adjacent council land that is intended for school community use.
The law applies at all times-during and after school hours, on weekends and during school holidays. It includes the use of all smoking products, including electronic cigarettes/Vapes.
The law applies to all persons at schools including students, teaching staff, parents and guardians of students, other employees of the school, visitors and persons providing a service or volunteering, clubs and organisations accessing school facilities.
School facilities are defined as land on which a
- state school provides education programs under the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006; or
- non-state school provides primary education, secondary education or special education under the Education (Accreditation of Non-State Schools) Act 2017; or
- state or non-state school provides other educational instruction or activities, for example, sports grounds, including land that is owned or leased by the school.

REMINDER!
We kindly ask that you return any uniforms your child may have borrowed from the office, as our supply of shorts and other items is running low.
Additionally, if you have any used uniforms in good condition that you would be willing to donate, we would greatly appreciate it. Your support helps us ensure that all students have access to uniforms if needed, allowing them to continue their day comfortably and without disruption. This also means we won't need to reach out for spare clothes in case of accidents during the day.
Thank you for your understanding and generosity!
I would like to wish all of our Cranbrook families a safe and enjoyable Easter break.
Term 2 commences on Tuesday 22nd April.

Have a great weekend everyone.
Jeff Capell - Principal

Every Day Counts - Attendance ✔✔✔
Regular, punctual attendance at school is expected of all students.
Students should be present at school ready to prepare for the day's learning by 8:30am.

Late Arrivals
Students arriving after 8:50am must report to the office to receive a lateslip. If a student is late, a letter of explanation from the student's parent/guardian must be presented to the office staff on arrival.
Absence
If a student is absent and the parent/guardian has not notified the school, they will receive an automated text message by 10am that day.
Parents will receive a text message informing them that their child is absent. If you receive one of these text messages, please contact the school to explain the reason for your child’s absence.
A working mobile number should be registered with the school, if available.
Please remember that absence is only marked for the days specified by the parents. If you ring up on a Monday informing that your child is sick and they remain away from school for the following 2 days because they are sick you need to inform us that this was the reason for their absence. You can inform us after the absence via a message directly to the teacher or by contacting our absence hotline or email.

Year 4D Investigate Weathering and Erosion!🌊
Year 4D has been busy exploring the forces of nature through an exciting hands-on investigation into weathering and erosion! Students have created and designed landscape models and used water to see how landscapes change over time. Students experimented with different materials to observe erosion in action, testing ways to slow it down—just like real environmental scientists! From using ground covering and building barriers, they discovered how nature and human intervention can work together to protect our landscapes. The class was amazed at how quickly water can wash away soil over time in different landscapes and strategies. Students identified that small changes can have a big impact on the world around us! Great job, Year 4D! Keep asking questions and discovering the wonders of science! 🔬🌏✨

The Prep students, filled with excitement and pride, showcase their handmade Easter bonnets, each one a unique expression of their imagination and craftsmanship. The vibrant parade is a highlight for both students and families, as colorful hats adorned with flowers, ribbons, and Easter-themed decorations take center stage. Parents and teachers cheer from the sidelines, fostering a sense of celebration and school spirit.
