Principal's Message
Welcome to our Week 4 Newsletter! Be sure to read through so you don’t miss any important updates.
When your child is ill
Please be reminded to consult Queensland Health's Time Out brochure, if ever you are unsure about the correct course of action to be taken, when it comes to your child being ill.
Emergency Contacts - Please ensure the school has up to date information regarding emergency contacts so that you can be reached if an illness or accident should occur.

Communicating with your child's school.
You can expect schools to:
• recognise and celebrate your child’s achievements
• report on your child’s academic progress
• communicate about your child’s learning, wellbeing and development
• inform you of any serious issues concerning your child
• alert you on the same day if your child is absent without a reason
• forward requests needing your consent or payment
• provide regular school updates and notify you of school events
• offer opportunities and ways to give feedback
• offer parent/carer-teacher interviews twice per year.
You should not expect:
• an immediate response to non-urgent inquiries - it may take a minimum of 2 or more business days
• staff to return calls or reply to emails outside standard business hours (including evenings and weekends)
• a response from staff to social media messages from their personal account
• access to teachers’ personal phone numbers or emails
• teachers to discuss school matters when not at work (e.g. if you see a teacher outside of school hours in the community)
• meetings with staff during the school day without an appointment
• to be allowed on school grounds if you have been aggressive or harassed staff or students.

Mother's Day Stall Thanks
Thank you to the Student Council and Staff who ran the Mother's Day Stall last week and thanks to you, our school community, for your support of it.
We hope all of the special ladies in our students' lives enjoyed their day on Sunday.
Felicity Waters - Second Deputy Confirmed
As our school continues to grow, so does our staffing. From the beginning of 2025 Cranbrook SS has engaged in a workplace reform to allow for a second deputy Principal. As some parents may have been aware Ms Natoli began in the position, however left the school for Mrs Felicity Waters to take on the role for a short period at the end of Term 1. The school has concluded the required selection process to fill the position for 12 months (with a possibility of extension to the end of 2026). The successful applicant is Felicity Waters, HODc from Aitkenvale SS and she will be joining us at the beginning of Week 5.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Every Day Counts - Attendance ✔✔✔
Regular, punctual attendance at school is expected of all students.
Students should be present at school ready to prepare for the day's learning by 8:30am.

Late Arrivals
Students arriving after 8:50am must report to the office to receive a lateslip. If a student is late, a letter of explanation from the student's parent/guardian must be presented to the office staff on arrival.
Absence
If a student is absent and the parent/guardian has not notified the school, they will receive an automated text message by 10am that day.
Parents will receive a text message informing them that their child is absent. If you receive one of these text messages, please contact the school to explain the reason for your child’s absence.
A working mobile number should be registered with the school, if available.
Please remember that absence is only marked for the days specified by the parents. If you ring up on a Monday informing that your child is sick and they remain away from school for the following 2 days because they are sick you need to inform us that this was the reason for their absence. You can inform us after the absence via a message directly to the teacher or by contacting our absence hotline or email.
If your child is absent, please leave a message detailing:
- Child's name
- Class
- Reason for absence
- Dates or duration of absence
Absence Hotline - 4726 1260
Absence Email - absences@cranbrookss.eq.edu.au

Let's Chat Habitat Incursion

The students had a wonderful time at the 'Let's Chat Habitat' Incursion on Monday!
“Let’s Chat Habitat is a colourful collection of short segments with the common theme of taking care of the environment. It tackles both the micro and macro from litter in the playground, turning off taps, lights and appliances, to the protection of endangered species. Students are shown how everyone doing a little can make a big difference.”

Honouring two decades of advocacy |
Today we unveil ‘Don’t Waste It’ - The Daniel Morcombe Story, a powerful documentary film reflecting on two decades of child safety advocacy from The Daniel Morcombe Foundation. This powerful 30-minute documentary honours Daniel’s legacy and educates teens on personal safety. This film is quite different to all the others we regularly share with you. Heritage Films has had the honour to produce Don't Waste It as part of the Foundation’s incredible 20-year celebrations. What an incredible legacy and what a wonderful way to honour Daniel, Bruce and Denise and the Foundation’s legacy for the way they have tirelessly worked to keep children safe.
