Principal's Message
Welcome to our Week 10 Newsletter!
We encourage you to read through carefully to ensure you don’t miss any important updates or upcoming events.
About Prep
Queensland children are required to undertake Prep prior to Year 1. Prep is a full-time program that children attend from Monday to Friday during normal school hours, generally from 9am to 3pm.
To be eligible for Prep, children must be aged 5 years by 30 June in the year they start Prep.
Prep is the start of the early stage of learning which continues until Year 2. It is available in all Queensland state schools and most non-state schools offering a primary program.
Prep is part of the whole school. Classrooms and other facilities are located in school grounds.
Prep provides the foundation for your child's success at school by developing:
- the knowledge, understanding and skills detailed in the Australian Curriculum for English, mathematics, science and history (Foundation Year)
- a positive approach to learning
- independence and confidence
- creativity and problem-solving skills
- physical abilities, including gross and fine motor skills.
In Prep, teachers support children's learning by making connections between school and their experiences at home, kindergarten or childcare.

‼️Reminder – Collecting Students Early / Appointments‼️
To help reduce interruptions to learning and phone calls to the front office, please follow the process below if your child needs to leave school early for an appointment or other reason:
- Do not phone ahead to request your child be sent to the office.
- On arrival at the front office, our staff will provide you with an Early Departure Slip.
- Take this slip to your child’s classroom and collect them directly from there.
This process helps minimise disruption to classrooms and allows our office staff to continue supporting the whole school efficiently.
We thank all families for their understanding and cooperation.

Every Day Counts - Attendance ✔✔✔
Regular, punctual attendance at school is expected of all students.
Students should be present at school ready to prepare for the day's learning by 8:30am.

Late Arrivals
Students arriving after 8:50am must report to the office to receive a lateslip. If a student is late, a letter of explanation from the student's parent/guardian must be presented to the office staff on arrival.
Absence
If a student is absent and the parent/guardian has not notified the school, they will receive an automated text message by 10am that day.
Parents will receive a text message informing them that their child is absent. If you receive one of these text messages, please contact the school to explain the reason for your child’s absence.
A working mobile number should be registered with the school, if available.
Please remember that absence is only marked for the days specified by the parents. If you ring up on a Monday informing that your child is sick and they remain away from school for the following 2 days because they are sick you need to inform us that this was the reason for their absence. You can inform us after the absence via a message directly to the teacher or by contacting our absence hotline or email.
If your child is absent, please leave a message detailing:
- Child's name
- Class
- Reason for absence
- Dates or duration of absence
Absence Hotline - 4726 1260
Absence Email - absences@cranbrookss.eq.edu.au
👍PBL - Positive Behaviour for Learning👍
Last week, our PBL was about respecting others' privacy and property!
This week, we looked at being resilient.
Below is the 'for families' poster of our lessons, which gives you a chance to continue these conversations at home and possibly apply them to your daily family life.

🎭From the Arts🎨
Our Arts department has been busy, busy, busy these past few weeks! From staging a musical masterpiece to shining at the recent Eisteddfods, their talents have been on full display. A huge thank you goes to our incredible Arts teachers, Mrs Onslow and Ms Earle, whose passion and dedication ensure our students not only learn but truly thrive in every area of the Arts. After all their hard work, they’ve earned a well-deserved rest, because our Arts team really is the best!
At the Recent Eisteddfod the following groups did so wonderful in representing Cranbrook SS!
Unison Songbird Choir - Participation
Folk Songbird and Nightingales – 3rd Place
Cranbrook Band - Participation
Novelty Nightingales - Highly Commended

🌟 A Very Special Shout Out to Our Amazing ARTS Teachers! 🌟
The passion, creativity, and dedication our ARTS teachers bring to Cranbrook SS is nothing short of inspiring. These lovely ladies pour endless time, energy, and heart into ensuring our students not only learn but truly shine in their chosen art forms.
Their enthusiasm sparks imagination, their encouragement builds confidence, and their talent creates opportunities for every student to thrive—whether it’s on stage, in the classroom, or behind the scenes.
The joy, colour, and vibrancy they bring to our school community is something we deeply value and celebrate. We are incredibly grateful for everything they do to nurture a love of the arts in our students and to create unforgettable experiences that will stay with them for years to come.
Thank you for inspiring the next generation of artists, performers, and creators you make Cranbrook shine brighter every day!

Deadly Choices Program 🍽️
We’ve enjoyed another exciting term with Codee from the Deadly Choices program! Our students loved taking part in the Good Quick Tukka Program, a six-week journey where they had the chance to get hands on in the kitchen, discover new skills, and taste delicious foods they may never have tried before. Along the way, they also learnt about the importance of eating right and creating balanced meals to fuel their bodies. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn, create, and have fun all at once!
From Mr Codee -
Over the past three terms, Deadly Choices has successfully delivered three tailored programs focusing on healthy lifestyle education, tobacco awareness, and the Good Quick Tukka nutrition initiative. Each program ran for 6 to 8 weeks, with weekly one-hour sessions. Throughout the programs, participants engaged in interactive and engaging activities designed to build leadership skills, encourage physical activity, promote good hygiene practices, and enhance nutritional knowledge. Key topics included understanding the food groups, the impact of sugar consumption, trying new foods, and learning about the harmful effects of tobacco use on the human body. Each session was delivered in a fun and interactive way, creating an environment that students eagerly looked forward to each week alongside their enthusiastic Deadly Choices facilitator, Mr. Codee. This partnership marks the beginning of a new and valuable relationship between the school and the Deadly Choices team. We look forward to continuing this collaboration as we work together to educate and empower our Indigenous youth, supporting efforts to close the health gap within our community.

🛥️🏕️ CAMP! 🚌🏖️
Year 3 Camp!
This week, our Year 3 students set off for an exciting camp at Magnetic Island, where they enjoyed a wide range of fun activities and adventures. Time at the beach was spent collecting shells, building impressive sandcastles, playing touch football, and enjoying the playground with friends. Students also visited Horseshoe Bay and Picnic Bay, soaking up the beautiful scenery and making special memories together. A highlight of the trip was a nature walk, where the children were delighted to spot rock wallabies up close in their natural environment. The camp was a wonderful opportunity for students to strengthen friendships, build independence, and experience learning beyond the classroom, all while embracing the beauty of Magnetic Island. A heartfelt thank you goes to the Year 3 teachers, our generous parent volunteers, Mrs Waters, and Mrs Morgan for their support and effort in making this camp such a memorable experience.

Year 5 Camp
From Monday to Thursday, our Year 5 students had an unforgettable adventure at Daradgee near Innisfail. Despite some wet weather, the rain didn’t dampen their spirits as they embraced a wide range of exciting activities including boating, photography, a visit to the farm, bouldering, rock climbing and belaying. Students also took part in water challenges and tackled the challenging low ropes course. Evenings were filled with engaging night activities, and on the final day, students enjoyed an informative and interactive snake talk and were lucky enough to pat Roxanne, a beautiful 2.5m Carpet Python. The camp was a wonderful opportunity for students to step out of their comfort zones, try new experiences, and develop new skills and enhance old ones. They returned with big smiles, great memories, and plenty of stories to share!

Year 6 Camp
The Year 6 students had an incredible time at camp at Mungalli Falls! Despite the miserable weather, you couldn’t wipe the smiles off their faces. From adventurous hikes and exciting water activities to tackling the challenging obstacle course, students had the chance to push themselves individually and also come together as a team to achieve their goals.
We’re so glad everyone had such a great time at camp! A huge thank you goes to our incredible Admin team, whose tireless behind-the-scenes work made it all possible. From the planning to the finer details, their effort ensured everything ran smoothly for both students and teachers.
PBL Celebrations (SNAPAGANZA)! 💧
This term the wonderful Mrs Waters and the Student Council came up with the brilliant idea to purchase a Dunk Tank for the students to dunk their favourite teachers and also work on their throwing skills!
It was a day spent full of laughter and making memories!
As well as the Dunking Tank we had our usual great activities that the teachers put on to celebrate the students who had earned their Snappy's and showed everyone how to be outstanding Cranbrook Learners.

Environmental Centre
We have such wonderful and caring students around our school. Two of our Year 6 girls noticed that one of the chickens has seemed a bit sad the past few days since their friend passed away, So Sarah and Elena kept the Chicken company, and helped keep it entertained while watching the Teachers Dunk Tank, so it wouldn't be so lonely.

The Cranbrook Community Hub 👋

Sadly today, we say goodbye to Bek, our Family Support Co-ordinator, who has been with us since the beginning of the year. We wish Bek well, as she heads off to support more of our Townsville community, at the Women's Centre. We know the families who had the confidence from Bek's support, will miss her dearly, however, please remember, that the support is still here for you, in The Hub, with Louise.
Thank you everyone, for your support this term. Have a wonderful break and hope to see you in The Hub in Term 4!
The Hub is our adult space. We want our parents/carers to use it for what they need – a bit of rest and respite, a place to safely talk, where to go to meet up with fellow class families and to meet new ones, a place to enjoy activities you may not ordinarily do.
Have a question? Please feel free to contact me, Louise, as follows: communityhub@cranbrookss.eq.edu.au / 0477004723

Honouring two decades of advocacy |
Today we unveil ‘Don’t Waste It’ - The Daniel Morcombe Story, a powerful documentary film reflecting on two decades of child safety advocacy from The Daniel Morcombe Foundation. This powerful 30-minute documentary honours Daniel’s legacy and educates teens on personal safety. This film is quite different to all the others we regularly share with you. Heritage Films has had the honour to produce Don't Waste It as part of the Foundation’s incredible 20-year celebrations. What an incredible legacy and what a wonderful way to honour Daniel, Bruce and Denise and the Foundation’s legacy for the way they have tirelessly worked to keep children safe.
