Principal's Message
Thank you for those parents who were able to support their children and the school with the new restrictions placed on the school prior to the holidays.
We were able to minimise the disruption to learning and assessments as much as possible and continue to hold our sporting and curriculum events.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish Mr Ian Wilcox all the very best on his retirement.
Ian has been a valuable colleague and teacher at our school over the last 17 years and he has made a positive difference to so many of our students and staff and he will be missed by all of us within our Cranbook school community. While we are all saddened to see him go, we wish him every success and happiness.
I would like to wish all of our Cranbrook families a safe and enjoyable Easter break. Term 2 commences on Monday 19th April.
Jeff Capell
Principal
Term 2 - Parent Teacher Interviews

Reading - Explicit Improvement Agenda wk 10
With school holidays right around the corner it is really important to continue reading. We see regression in some of our students reading ability over the holiday break hence the importance in continuing to read on a daily basis where possible. We look forward to seeing you all next term.
Enrichment Learning with Ms Negra
This term, 33 students across years 1-6 were withdrawn from class to engage in enrichment activities in groups.
Year 4,5 and 6 worked with DeBono’s Thinking Hats to consider alternative perspectives on issues. Some of these perspectives were individual and we also worked in groups on both a bushfire theme and a governmental problem with moving to Mars.
The year 1,2 and 3 groups worked on a literacy study. They made new dustcovers, wrote new blurbs, investigated non- fiction texts and discussed what features make a poster interesting.

Message from Chappy Chrissy
As I reflect on what has been a busy term I am grateful for so many things. As an SU Chaplain I have the privilege of being part of the Cranbrook SS community and being a wellbeing support person for this community.
I am reminded that Easter on the Christian calendar is about God’s sacrifice to this world by sending His Son for a broken world. I see ‘brokenness’ every day in my role as Chaplain and if I can play a part in bringing comfort, peace and love to child’s heart, my job is so worth it.
I also see the beautiful things where children flourish in their gifting and shine in their strengths.
Take time to reflect on why we are all here doing what we do with our gifts and strengths.
Take time to remember that we all play our part in bringing love to this world.
Be kind to yourself and others. Have a blessed Easter break and in the midst of the yummy chocolate, remember the reason for the season.
Love,
Chappy Chrissy

The Arts Space
Things didn’t slow down this week for the Arts as we celebrated our community and our amazing students!
Year 3 students have been working on creating landscapes in class. This week we finalised our underwater landscapes and displayed them all in an underwater scene! Have a look at their work so far!
Preps-Year 3 participated in Snapaganza today, and In the Arts Space students were able to take photos using a green screen. They had a great time dressing up!
Lastly, our wonderful Year 6 Student Council had planned to visit the Good Shepherd Nursing Home this week to bring some joy to our local community. Unfortunately plans had to change, however the girls still sent a video to the home to send their thoughts at Easter time.
Miss Caitlin, our piano teacher sent in this adorable clip of Darcie in Year 2, playing Yankee Doodle!

Every Day Counts - Attendance
Regular, punctual attendance at school is expected of all students. Students should be present at school ready to prepare for the day's learning by 8:30am.
Late Arrivals
Students arriving after 8:50am must report to the office to receive a lateslip. If a student is late, a letter of explanation from the student's parent/guardian must be presented to the office staff on arrival.
Absence
If a student is absent and the parent/guardian has not notified the school, they will receive an automated text message by 10am that day.
Parents will receive a text message informing them that their child is absent. If you receive one of these text messages, please contact the school to explain the reason for your child’s absence.
A working mobile number should be registered with the school, if available.
Please remember that absence is only marked for the days specified by the parents. If you ring up on a Monday informing that your child is sick and they remain away from school for the following 2 days because they are sick you need to inform us that this was the reason for their absence. You can inform us after the absence via a message directly to the teacher or by contacting our absence hotline or email.
If your child is absent, please leave a message detailing:
- Child's name
- Class
- Reason for absence
- Dates or duration of absence
Absence Hotline - 4726 1260
Absence Email - absences@cranbrookss.eq.edu.au
Absence For More Than 10 Days
What is an exemption and why do I need it?
Every parent of a child of compulsory school age has a legal obligation to ensure their child is enrolled and attending school. Parents can apply for an exemption from this obligation when their child cannot attend or it would be unreasonable in all the circumstances for their child to attend school for a period of more than 10 consecutive school days.
Situations where an application for an exemption may be made include:
- Illness
- Family reasons
- Cultural or religious reasons
If your child is exempt from compulsory schooling, you are excused from your obligation in relation to compulsory schooling.
The school principal is not responsible for providing an educational program for your child, however they may provide advice on other educational options available. Decisions about exemptions for up to one school year are made by the principal and decisions about exemptions for more than one school year are made by the relevant Regional Director of the Department of Education, Training and Employment, responsible for the supervision of the school your child attends.
