Case of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease
A student at Cranbrook State School has been recently diagnosed with Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease.
Copies of the Queensland Health "Time Out" Fact Sheet are available from our Administration Office. The fact sheet outlines information on signs and symptoms, transmission, treatment, prevention and health outcome. A link below has also been provided.
As per the Queensland Health "Time Out" Poster, the student with the infection must be excluded until all blisters have dried. Persons who have been in contact with the infected person are not excluded.
Mother's Day
This week at school our Student Council set up a stall where students were able to purchase various treasures for their mothers or special person each morning before school. Our Student Council together with the PCR group also organised a Mother's Day Afternoon to celebrate our Cranbrook mums! Thank you to everyone who contributed to this successful afternoon. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of the mothers in our Cranbrook community a Happy Mother's Day for Sunday.

Australian Early Development Census
Playing our Part to Build a National Picture of Child Health
In early June 2021, our school, along with thousands of others across the country will begin preparations for the fifth Australian Early Development Census (AEDC).
The AEDC gives us a national picture of the development, health and wellbeing of children in their first year of full-time school. Since 2009, the census results have helped communities, schools and governments plan services and develop better policies to target support for children and families.
Children don’t miss any class time, and parents/carers don’t need to supply schools with any new information for the census. The AEDC gives us data at a school and community level - it isn’t an assessment of individual children.
We used the results to support help plan and more effectively allocate the right kinds of services and support for children and families. Some teachers have also noticed that completing the assessments made them more aware of the needs of individual children and the class as a whole and that the census results are useful in planning for transitions to Year 1 and developing class programs.
Participation in the AEDC is voluntary. Parents/carers don’t need to take any action unless they choose not to include their children in the census.
To find out more about the census and how communities are using the data to help children and families visit the AEDC website: www.aedc.gov.au.
If you have any questions, you can contact your class teacher in the first instance.

We meet on the third Wednesday of each month. Our next meeting will be held on 19th May. While the association is set up to provide information and advice to the Principal and administration team with regard to the direction of the school, one of our roles is to enhance the environment of our students by supplementing resources and improving the amenities and grounds.
The P&C contributes to programs in a range of areas, including:
- Learning and teaching;
- Information communication and technology; and

The website connected the students to other students around the world and within our playing group to complete in the ‘fastest’ student to complete maths problems.
The students really enjoyed the experience and had a lot of fun. Some of the year 6 students were even brave enough to look at the Year 10 questions!

The Arts Space
In The Arts Space this term, Year 3 students are continuing to develop their music and visual art skills. This week, in Visual Art, the students began their individual ‘found object’ landscape projects of either a city, ocean or rainforest. The landscape art requires students to use ‘found objects’ from school and at home to create their landscapes.
Last week, we experimented with ‘found objects’ to make animals. Here is a taste of the incredible creativity we will continue to see over the next few weeks! And don’t be surprised if your Year 3 students ask you to keep everything and anything at home for their projects! We cant wait to see the final results!

Congratulations
Rhylee (6A) for supporting her peers through difficult times.
Aussie of the Month is based on encouraging and recognising students for their contribution to community.
The intention is that it aligns to the Values for Australian Schooling and Curriculum framework and recognises students for their effort outside of academic application or sporting achievement and acknowledges students who demonstrate outstanding contributions within their community.
Key values that are sought to amplify are:
Fair go – not just how we apply ourselves but also in providing opportunity for all
Mateship - a generosity of spirit and compassion for those in need
Respect – of self, of others, our community, and the environment
Inclusion – acceptance and respect of difference

Absence For More Than 10 Days
What is an exemption and why do I need it?
Every parent of a child of compulsory school age has a legal obligation to ensure their child is enrolled and attending school. Parents can apply for an exemption from this obligation when their child cannot attend or it would be unreasonable in all the circumstances for their child to attend school for a period of more than 10 consecutive school days.
Situations where an application for an exemption may be made include:
- Illness
- Family reasons
- Cultural or religious reasons
If your child is exempt from compulsory schooling, you are excused from your obligation in relation to compulsory schooling.
The school principal is not responsible for providing an educational program for your child, however they may provide advice on other educational options available. Decisions about exemptions for up to one school year are made by the principal and decisions about exemptions for more than one school year are made by the relevant Regional Director of the Department of Education, Training and Employment, responsible for the supervision of the school your child attends.
