Lunches
Can your child open the packet? Please ensure if you are giving your child pre-packaged food that they can open it. Unfortunately, staff on duty may not have time to open the packaging for all students. Please also remember that students are required to take all uneaten food home, other than healthy snacks.
EVERY DAY COUNTS… Frequently asked questions
Do I need to let the school know if my child has been away?
Yes – Parents must let the school know the reason for the absence, if not beforehand, then within two days of their child’s return to school.
Can I take my child out of school for family or social occasions?
No – you should arrange leisure activities, visits to family and friends and shopping trips outside of school hours.
Does the occasional day away from school really affect my child’s education?
Yes – Research shows that in Queensland, higher student attendance is associated, on average, with higher student achievement.
What should I do if my child refuses to go to school?
Contact the school as soon as possible for advice and support.
Early Collection of Students
If you have an appointment or need to collect your student/s early, please send a note for the classroom teacher so the student/s can be sent to the office at the appropriate time.
Emergency Contacts
Please ensure the school has up-to-date information regarding emergency contacts so that you can be reached if an illness or accident should occur.
Access Road and Cul-de-Sac
The turnaround point inside the school grounds are used by parents with students who have a disability to ensure the safety of their children. Parents who do not have a permit are asked to refrain from using this area as a pick or drop off point. Especially those parents who may be easily offended when asked to leave the area or when larger vehicles such as buses and garbage trucks repeatedly signal their horn until you depart this area as it is their turn around point.
Lost Property
Our lost property collection is growing. Please check our lost property box to claim any of your children's missing belongings.

The Arts Space
An exciting week for the Arts!
Firstly, we would like to thank Miss Rhonda and Miss Deb from Kirwan High. They came in during Wednesday this week to help 3C with their found object art. 3C loved having Miss Rhonda and Miss Deb’s input into their artwork. We are enjoying the collaboration with the high school.
Musica Viva "Doctor Stovepipe" Performance
This week we also were fortunate to have the Musica Viva performance of ‘Doctor Stovepipe’ come to Cranbrook. Approximately 170 students watched and danced and sang along to music from across the ages. Thank you to all of our parents who paid for this concert to make it possible! We hope you enjoy this short clip of the students' experience of the show!
At junior parade this week, we also had our Year 6 and Prep buddies perform a few musical pieces. 6A and Prep C performed ‘Rain Rain’, 6B and Prep A performed ‘Sally Go round the Sun’ and 6C and Prep B performed ‘Mama Lama’. Each class played beautifully and students loved working with their buddies! Thank you to all the parents who came along to watch. A few short clips of the children's performances have been posted on our School's Facebook Page!
We invite you all to come along to Cranbrook Creates Concert in our hall next week, Tuesday 8th June. You’ll be entertained by our choirs, bands, strings, Drama Club, Hip Hop Club, guitarists and piano players. Everyone is welcome and we are excited to see you all there!

Interschool Cross Country
Selected students participated in the Interschool Cross Country on the 25th May and represented the school with great pride.
Miss Von Wald is very proud of their efforts, with most students finishing in the top 20-150 mark, which is quite outstanding considering that there were over 200 children competing in some of the age groups.
Congratulations to Deakyn Brown who finished in the top 10 for his age group and competed at the NQ Cross Country on the 1st of June. At the NQ trials, Deakyn finished in 7th place and will take a reserve position on the team.

Chaplaincy Fundraiser Dinner
Thank you to Cranbrook State Shool, Cranbrook P&C and my Local Chaplaincy Committee for all the hard work to make our 2021 Chaplaincy Fundraiser Dinner happen.
Thank you to Heidi - Your passion in getting the ball rolling, for the ground work of networking and sourcing sponsors, for thinking big, for your design of invitations, tickets and flyers and the regular advertising were very appreciated.
Thank you to our wonderful performers and to everyone who attended the evening. A huge thank you to our donors and sponsors for your generous donations either financially or in kind to support our School Chaplaincy Services.
We also appreciated everyone's patience and understanding regarding the new COVID restrictions and requirements to sign in, observance of social distancing and the changes to the service of food and drinks. Prior to COVID were able able to supply open water jugs on tables, table service, and self-help canapés, but despite these limitations and other small hiccups on the night, our event was successful and made especially so, because of everyone's generosity, love and support.
Our Chaplaincy Fundraiser Dinner raised a total of $4,889.68. This money assists to maintain Chaplaincy Service hours and provides opportunity for extra days at school.
As Cranbrook State School Chaplain, I can assure you the extra days of service are so important in maintaining consistent wellbeing support for the whole school community.
Your coming together at our event to fundraise and to support our School Chaplaincy Services is deeply appreciated and will enable me to continue to provide support and love and do the vital work required of me within our wonderful Cranbrook School Community. Words cannot express my gratitute for everyone's kindness and efforts to support to such a worthwhile cause this year.

Chaplaincy Dinner Sponsors & Supporters
The Chaplaincy Committee, Cranbrook P and C Association and Cranbrook State School would like to thank the following businesses, supporters and families for their generosity and support towards the Chaplaincy Fundraising Dinner.
What's On in Year 5
Jezzine Barracks Excursion
On Thursday 27th May, the Year 5 students set off on their expedition to map the Jezzine Barracks. Students spent the day exploring and mapping the area. They found many exciting landmarks such as cannons, gun stores, and art gallery and much more.
They explored the eco-botanical trail and learned about how they could use eat different native plants and trees or use them to treat many different problems including itches, rashes or even death adder bites using Aboriginal knowledge.
All students enjoyed their day and learnt a great deal about exploring and our local area.
Year 5 Camp Information Session
Parents are reminded that there is a Daradgee Camp Information Session next Tuesday, 8th June in the 4/5D Classroom at 5:30pm.

What's On in Year 4
Coding using Scratch
Year 4 have been learning how to code using Scratch and add in the digital device of Makey Makey's to control their digital characters.
The learning has been fun, interactive and the students have been able to share their prior knowledge of coding with their peers and even teach the teacher a thing or two.
There were some amazing creations among the two classes, and we are looking forward to continuing this learning next Semester.
Write 4 Fun Finalists

Absence For More Than 10 Days
What is an exemption and why do I need it?
Every parent of a child of compulsory school age has a legal obligation to ensure their child is enrolled and attending school. Parents can apply for an exemption from this obligation when their child cannot attend or it would be unreasonable in all the circumstances for their child to attend school for a period of more than 10 consecutive school days.
Situations where an application for an exemption may be made include:
- Illness
- Family reasons
- Cultural or religious reasons
If your child is exempt from compulsory schooling, you are excused from your obligation in relation to compulsory schooling.
The school principal is not responsible for providing an educational program for your child, however they may provide advice on other educational options available. Decisions about exemptions for up to one school year are made by the principal and decisions about exemptions for more than one school year are made by the relevant Regional Director of the Department of Education, Training and Employment, responsible for the supervision of the school your child attends.
