Cranbrook Newsletter - Term 3 Week 1 2021
Principal's Message
Welcome back everyone to our next forty-five days of learning in Term Three.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend a very warm ‘Cranbrook State School’ welcome to our new families who are joining us this Term.
It is always wonderful to see all newcomers settle in so quickly and adapt to our daily routines and culture. Term Three is always one of the busiest in every school year. There will no doubt be other activities and events along the way to keep us even busier. If you are not yet following us via Social Media, I encourage you to like our school Facebook page as another way to keep abreast of our news.
Staffing Changes
Ms Shannon Morgan has joined Ms Amy Kennett in teaching Year 4/5D for the remainder of the year.
Semester 1 Report Cards
Report cards for Semester 1 will be sent out (paper copy and email) at the end of Week 2.
Please ensure your email addresses are up to date with our office staff to ensure you receive your digital copy.
Procedures for Ensuring Safety
Parents and carers, a reminder to please ensure that:
- you sign your children in through the office if they are late to school,
- you sign them out if you need to collect them early (including from sick bay), and
- you sign them in and out if they are out of school for a period of time during the day.
You will be issued with an Early Departure/Exit Slip from our system when you report to the office to collect your child. Teachers will be instructed not to release children who have not presented with the Early Departure/Exit Slip. This is very important to track where children are, and also for our official record keeping.
Term 3 Extra-Curricular Activities
During Term 3, Cranbrook State School will offer a wide range of Extra-Curricular Activities for students to participate in, largely due to the generosity and enthusiasm of the teachers who volunteer their own time. Some parents may have noticed that offers to participate in Piano and Guitar lessons have already been emailed.
The Process for Term 3
1. A schedule of the Extra-Curricular activities will be released via email and newsletter in Week 1 Term 3.
2. Extra-Curricular activities begin and conclude at different times during the term.
3. Students will be reminded through morning announcements during week 2 of what activities are available on that day.
4. If students attend on that day the teacher will make a decision as to who can attend and who cannot based on numbers.
5. If the activity is an afternoon or before school activity, all students can attend in Week 2 to determine who can join.
Please discuss with your child about what opportunities they may wish to be involved in and remind them about their attendance on a weekly basis. Below are the activities that are being offered this term.

Daily Absence Notification
Queensland state schools are required to advise parents/carers when their child is absent without explanation as soon as practicable on that day, allowing time for parents/carers to respond before the end of the school day. Are you receiving your text message when your child is absent? If not, please contact the school to update your contact information.
Parents can reply text the reason for their child's absence and then you won't need to write a note or call our Absence Hotline.
School Facilities Works
The New School Security Fence (yes, the big black ones that have been constructed at other schools) construction will begin on Monday 26th July and conclude by Friday 13th August.
The School Entry Project (P&C Funded) for a covered access will also begin on Monday 19th July.
There may be some disruption to entry ways during the construction period, however the company will try to minimise these as much as possible. We will advise you of any interruptions to entryway access that these works may cause.
I have included a schematic drawing (above) of the school entry project. We thank you for your consideration over the next few weeks and any minor disruptions will be well worth it once the project is complete.
The construction of the new Year 4,5,6 Playground will commence Wednesday 28th July and conclude on 20th August.

If you ring up on a Monday informing that your child is sick and they remain away from school for the following 2 days because they are sick you need to inform us that this was the reason for their absence. Absence For More Than 10 Days
What is an exemption and why do I need it?
Every parent of a child of compulsory school age has a legal obligation to ensure their child is enrolled and attending school. Parents can apply for an exemption from this obligation when their child cannot attend or it would be unreasonable in all the circumstances for their child to attend school for a period of more than 10 consecutive school days.
Situations where an application for an exemption may be made include:
- Illness
- Family reasons
- Cultural or religious reasons
If your child is exempt from compulsory schooling, you are excused from your obligation in relation to compulsory schooling.
The school principal is not responsible for providing an educational program for your child, however they may provide advice on other educational options available. Decisions about exemptions for up to one school year are made by the principal and decisions about exemptions for more than one school year are made by the relevant Regional Director of the Department of Education, Training and Employment, responsible for the supervision of the school your child attends.
