Books, Bevvies & Breakfast
It was great to see so many of our families attend our Book Week Breakfast under the tree on Thursday morning! Thank you to the staff and P & C who made this morning possible for our Cranbrook Community and fun for everyone.
Support Staff Appreciation
Next week Thursday, 2nd September is School Support Staff Appreciation Day. Our support staff have various roles in our school and can be seen both in and out of classrooms, supporting children with their learning and development and assisting with day to day operations around our school both during and after school hours. They are often the "glue" that holds our school together ensuring that our school continues to run smoothly.
Please be sure to stop and give a big "Thank You" to our support staff at Cranbrook when you see them.
New Senior Playground
Year 4, 5 and 6 students have been having fun this week exploring the new ninja park style playground that has recently been completed.

What's On in Year 4
Investigating the Properties of Ochre
Students in Year 4 are investigating the natural properties of ochre. Did you know that our First Nation's peoples have been using ochre in various forms for more than 28,000 years? Ochre colours range from yellow through to brown and red.
Students have been working in groups to explore and identify that certain materials and resources have different uses both individually and when mixed together with other materials. They are also learning how ochre was used in the past and how it is continued being used today.

Absence For More Than 10 Days
What is an exemption and why do I need it?
Every parent of a child of compulsory school age has a legal obligation to ensure their child is enrolled and attending school. Parents can apply for an exemption from this obligation when their child cannot attend or it would be unreasonable in all the circumstances for their child to attend school for a period of more than 10 consecutive school days.
Situations where an application for an exemption may be made include:
- Illness
- Family reasons
- Cultural or religious reasons
If your child is exempt from compulsory schooling, you are excused from your obligation in relation to compulsory schooling.
The school principal is not responsible for providing an educational program for your child, however they may provide advice on other educational options available. Decisions about exemptions for up to one school year are made by the principal and decisions about exemptions for more than one school year are made by the relevant Regional Director of the Department of Education, Training and Employment, responsible for the supervision of the school your child attends.
