Farewell from Chappy Chrissy
It is with sadness that I let you know I will be leaving Cranbrook State School.
During the middle of this term, I applied for a three day a week Chaplain position at Annandale Christian College. My plan, should I be successful, was to work three days at ACC and work my two Chaplaincy days at Cranbrook. To my surprise, I was offered the job and the ACC Principal, offered another two extra days, which suddenly altered my plan.
After much prayerful consideration, I made the decision to walk through this door of opportunity. I will work through to the end of Term 3 at Cranbrook SS and commence my new chaplaincy in Term 4. I have been with SU (Scripture Union Australia) for over 10 years. SU has been an amazing training organisation to work for and very supportive throughout my Chaplain journey, having worked at Herberton SS/HS Prep -10, Pimlico HS and Cranbrook SS. I have been with Cranbrook SS for nearly 8 years and have invested my heart in this beautiful school.
As I reflect on my time at Cranbrook SS, we as a school community have journeyed together through tragic losses of staff members, tragic losses of students, tragic losses of parents, the Townsville floods, the homelessness, the financial struggles, the unemployment, COVID 19, online learning and the numerous celebrations of this school.
It is my prayer that Cranbrook SS commissions a new and improved version of this Chaplain and a Chaplain who will take chaplaincy services into a new season. As with all change it can take time to readjust and transition, but embrace your new Chaplain when they walk into this school. They don’t walk in my shoes … they walk onto the foundation that I leave behind … they will bring their gifts and talents.
Thank you all for your love and support. You will always have a special place in my heart and prayers.
Much Love,
Chappy Chrissy

What is an exemption and why do I need it?
Every parent of a child of compulsory school age has a legal obligation to ensure their child is enrolled and attending school. Parents can apply for an exemption from this obligation when their child cannot attend or it would be unreasonable in all the circumstances for their child to attend school for a period of more than 10 consecutive school days.
Situations where an application for an exemption may be made include:
- Illness
- Family reasons
- Cultural or religious reasons
If your child is exempt from compulsory schooling, you are excused from your obligation in relation to compulsory schooling.
The school principal is not responsible for providing an educational program for your child, however they may provide advice on other educational options available. Decisions about exemptions for up to one school year are made by the principal and decisions about exemptions for more than one school year are made by the relevant Regional Director of the Department of Education, Training and Employment, responsible for the supervision of the school your child attends.
