After School Procedures
Students riding or walking home after school should promptly leave the school grounds no later than 3:10pm.
No children (school age or not) are allowed on the playground equipment (including the Prep Area and the Prep Adventure Playground) after 3:00pm without parent supervision. This direction is for safety reasons as the students cannot be supervised by staff after this time.
Electronic Devices (mobile phones, iPods etc belonging to students)
Children may bring electronic devices to school. They should hand them in at the office on arrival at school and collect them at the end of the school day.
Children are not permitted to have electronic devices in the classroom or playground. If the need to make a call arises during the day, students may seek their teachers’ permission to come to the office to make a call.
This policy protects the learning time of all students and minimises the chance of loss or damage to electronic devices.
Transition to School Resources to Support Your Child
There are many ways a parent or carer can help their child transition from home or kindy to school.
Take a look at the short video from the Department of Education on "Supporting Successful Transitions from Kindergarten to School" which is one of several videos on their website designed to assist families, early education and care services and schools to support positive transitions to Prep.
The Chief Health Officer has written to school principals across Queensland to urge you and your family (including all children aged 12 years and older) to take the opportunity over the upcoming school holidays to get vaccinated for COVID-19.
Children aged 12 years and older can receive a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at a Queensland Health vaccination location or at a participating General Practice (GP). In the very near future, you will be able to access Moderna (Spikevax) vaccine at a participating community pharmacy.
The Chief Health Officer encourages you to please make this a priority for your family these school holidays by taking the below actions.
How to Book
1. Register your interest to receive your COVID-19 vaccine at a Queensland Health vaccination location.
a. Older children can register themselves separately if they have their own email address; or
b. A parent or guardian can register and set up their children as dependents. All correspondence will be managed through the parent/guardian’s email address. Read more about creating a dependent in the vaccine booking system.
If you need assistance with vaccination bookings, call 134 COVID (13 42 68).
2. Access the COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility Checker to book a vaccination at a participating GP or community pharmacy.
Walk in Opportunities
Walk in appointments are currently available at selected Queensland Health vaccination locations. To find your closest walk in vaccination location, please visit www.health.qld.gov.au/vaccinelocations.
Consent
For young people, consent from a parent/guardian is usually required. In Queensland:
- individuals aged 12 to 15 years may require a parent/guardian to provide consent, however may be mature enough to provide informed consent
- individuals aged 16 years and older are generally deemed to have capacity to consent for vaccination.
It is recommended that children under the age of 16 have a parent/guardian with them at their vaccination appointment. Young people seeking to provide informed consent themselves, without parental consent, should speak to their vaccinating clinician. Find out more about age of consent for vaccinations online.
Additional Information and Support
For more information about the COVID-19 vaccine and children, please visit Queensland Health’s website for children, young people and parents.
If you need an interpreter to book your vaccination appointment, call 13 42 68 and ask to be connected to an interpreter. If an interpreter is needed to phone this service, first call the Translating and Interpreting Service on 13 14 50 and they can connect you.
If an interpreter is needed at the vaccine appointment, advise a staff member when you arrive at the vaccination location so they can arrange this for you. This is a free service.
The Chief Health Officer thanks you for your cooperation to keep Queensland and our school community safe.
Keep a Watch on our School these Holidays
Parents and students can help take care of our school by reporting any suspicious after-hours activity to School Watch on 13 17 88. By keeping an eye out we can work together to create a safer school community and help to reduce vandalism, theft and arson in our school.
If you see something suspicious, please don't intervene. Call the School Watch number and let the local police or State Government Protective Security Service deal with the matter.

What's On in Year 6
Federation Celebration Day!
Year 6 students and their families were invited to a wonderful culminating event this Wednesday afternoon, “Federation Celebration Day”.
Students planned the entire event right down to the catering! Students created catering plans for the event as part of their Maths assessment then cooked their damper, biscuits and brownies and served them with cordial, water and punch.
Students researched and set up Federation era games such as Fly, Ring Toss, Hopscotch, gold panning and more. The most exciting part of all though had to be Mr Von Wald and his whip. It was an excellent way to end the Australian History unit.

Absence For More Than 10 Days
What is an exemption and why do I need it?
Every parent of a child of compulsory school age has a legal obligation to ensure their child is enrolled and attending school. Parents can apply for an exemption from this obligation when their child cannot attend or it would be unreasonable in all the circumstances for their child to attend school for a period of more than 10 consecutive school days.
Situations where an application for an exemption may be made include:
- Illness
- Family reasons
- Cultural or religious reasons
If your child is exempt from compulsory schooling, you are excused from your obligation in relation to compulsory schooling.
The school principal is not responsible for providing an educational program for your child, however they may provide advice on other educational options available. Decisions about exemptions for up to one school year are made by the principal and decisions about exemptions for more than one school year are made by the relevant Regional Director of the Department of Education, Training and Employment, responsible for the supervision of the school your child attends.
