Cranbrook Newsletter Term 4 - Week 10 2021
Principal's Message
As we come to the end of the school year, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and safe Christmas break. Term 1 commences on Monday, 24th January, 2022.
Report Cards Issued
Semester 2 Report Cards were issued to students on Thursday afternoon and a copy has been emailed to parents.
Classes and Teachers Released
Class Teachers for 2022 have been distributed. Class Lists are unable to be distributed due to privacy requirements placed on us by legislation and parental circumstances. As with any release of information some students and parents may be pleased or disappointed with the situation they are placed in. If you strongly object to either the teacher placement or the peers, you are requested to put your request in writing and outline the EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES that would deem it necessary to move classes.
Please forward your requests to The Principal by Friday, 10th December and mark your correspondence PRIVATE and CONFIDENTIAL. A decision will be made on all requests the week before school begins so new enrolments can be taken into account. No early decisions will be made.
Please be aware that these lists are only DRAFT and the final class lists, teachers and rooms will only be finalised in 2022 after Day 8.
Student Resource Scheme 2022
Thank you to those parents who have made a decision regarding the Student Resource and Stationery Scheme for 2022.
For those parents who have decided to participate in 2022 by signing the SRSS form and making the $120 payment (10% discount if paid before school starts), congratulations to you, as you have already fulfilled your parental responsibility to provide the required resources for your child’s education. Our school will ensure they have all the required equipment the entire year.
For those parents who have decided to opt out of the scheme AND have returned the Participation Form informing us of that, congratulations to you, as you have taken the first step and you now only need to source the listed resources. Please ensure when you are purchasing the consumable and non-consumable items to clearly mark your child’s name on their belongings as these will be needed every year. For any items that are missing we will contact you on the first day to ensure you can source these before the next day of school so your child can have access to all the resources they require. Your teachers will no doubt be in regular contact throughout the year so you can supply further resources when your child uses the current resources or loses them. If parents don’t supply the consumable items in a timely manner the school will provide your child with the resources and invoice parents the appropriate retail price as listed in our School Resource and Stationery Scheme documentation.
For those parents who forget to opt in or out of the School Resource and Stationery Scheme by completing a Participation Form AND/OR have forgotten to pay the SRSS Fees of $120 you will be contacted on the first day to make the appropriate arrangements by the end of the day so your child can access the classroom with their peers with the required resources for learning.
Below is a table explaining the discounts. Parents are expected to have paid the fees (part (50%) or full) on the first day of school OR ensure that their child has all the required stationery and resources ready to start school.
Pay Before 24th Jan | Pay After 24th Jan | |
Child 1 | $108.00 | $120.00 |
Child 2 | $97.20 | $108.00 |
Child 3 | $97.20 | $108.00 |

Farewell Year 6 Seniors
It all started Wednesday 27th January, 2021. The first day of Year 6. We had smiles, relief and some tears on that day and that was just the parents.
Every student in Year 6 hit the ground running. We formed friendships with our peers and teachers. We lost a few friends along the way, cried a many a tear for Mr Wilcox’s departure and gained some newcomers to our Year 6 family.
We experienced forming new friendships, working as team and OF COURSE new learnings. We rose to the expectation of the leaders of the school by helping out around the school, whenever we were asked. We participated in a range of incursions and excursions including: SES and accessing the Townsville Disaster Centre and Heatley High school. A group of Indigenous students represented the school in the Indigenous Youth Parliament. Mr Von Wald showed his whip cracking skills at our culminating activity and each class planned, measured and prepared food to share with families on this busy afternoon. We went on camp at Mungalli Falls, participated in the fete, organised our NAIDOC activities, hosted, participated in graduation and also learnt new curriculum in a range platforms.
As a cohort we had laughs, challenges, tears and words of encouragement along the way. And if you asked any Year 6 student ‘What did they learn today?', when they got home from school, they would have answered with the traditional reply of ‘nothing’.
What words would Year 6 staff say about this cohort? Respectful, Proactive, Resilient and Responsible.
So now we have come around full circle. It is Friday 10th December, 2021. The last day of school. We have smiles, relief and some tears today and that's okay.
Best Wishes 2021 Year 6 graduates. You have made Cranbrook State School proud.

Absence For More Than 10 Days
What is an exemption and why do I need it?
Every parent of a child of compulsory school age has a legal obligation to ensure their child is enrolled and attending school. Parents can apply for an exemption from this obligation when their child cannot attend or it would be unreasonable in all the circumstances for their child to attend school for a period of more than 10 consecutive school days.
Situations where an application for an exemption may be made include:
- Illness
- Family reasons
- Cultural or religious reasons
If your child is exempt from compulsory schooling, you are excused from your obligation in relation to compulsory schooling.
The school principal is not responsible for providing an educational program for your child, however they may provide advice on other educational options available. Decisions about exemptions for up to one school year are made by the principal and decisions about exemptions for more than one school year are made by the relevant Regional Director of the Department of Education, Training and Employment, responsible for the supervision of the school your child attends.
