Principal's Message
Welcome to our Week 6 newsletter. We hope you are surviving the heat ok.
Leadership Ceremony
Our Leadership Ceremony will be held on Thursday, 17th March at 9.15am, in our school hall.
Medical Information and Parent Contact Update
It is important that all student medical records and parent/emergency contacts are current. If your child has Asthma, Anaphylactic Reactions, Allergies, Diabetes or any medical condition that the school needs to be aware of please make sure that an Action Plan, if necessary, is current. The Action Plan needs to be filled out by a medical practitioner. Please also ensure that the medications held at the school have not passed the use by date.
Parent/Emergency Contact Updates
If you or your emergency contact details have changed please contact the school so your data can be updated.
During 2021, we have had a significant focus on ensuring our learners are successful. What this looks like this year is:
- Our high achieving students will be offered extension and enrichment activities either through our Extra or Co-curricular programs and/or additional learning opportunities through our Global Tropics partnership with James Cook University, our school based enrichment program run by Mrs Sam Negra or an individual enrichment program coordinator by Cohort Leaders/Classroom Teachers.
- The Whole School Approach Improvement and Decision making Team, led by our Head of Inclusion means our teachers will be focusing on the three layers of quality teaching and learning (Differentiation, Focused Teaching and Intensive Teaching) for 100% of our students.
- The Positive Behaviour for Learning Improvement and Decision Making Team will continue the great work Cranbrook has already achieved in this area to support students and staff in continuing to make Cranbrook State School a positive place.
Facebook…...Are you following yet? Reminders and updates are posted regularly.
Have a safe weekend.

Dates for your diary
Every Day Counts - Attendance
Regular, punctual attendance at school is expected of all students. Students should be present at school ready to prepare for the day's learning by 8:30am.
Late Arrivals
Students arriving after 8:50am must report to the office to receive a lateslip. If a student is late, a letter of explanation from the student's parent/guardian must be presented to the office staff on arrival.
Absence
If a student is absent and the parent/guardian has not notified the school, they will receive an automated text message by 10am that day.
Parents will receive a text message informing them that their child is absent. If you receive one of these text messages, please contact the school to explain the reason for your child’s absence.
A working mobile number should be registered with the school, if available.
Please remember that absence is only marked for the days specified by the parents. If you ring up on a Monday informing that your child is sick and they remain away from school for the following 2 days because they are sick you need to inform us that this was the reason for their absence. You can inform us after the absence via a message directly to the teacher or by contacting our absence hotline or email.
If your child is absent, please leave a message detailing:
- Child's name
- Class
- Reason for absence
- Dates or duration of absence
Absence Hotline - 4726 1260
Absence Email - absences@cranbrookss.eq.edu.au
Absence For More Than 10 Days
What is an exemption and why do I need it?
Every parent of a child of compulsory school age has a legal obligation to ensure their child is enrolled and attending school. Parents can apply for an exemption from this obligation when their child cannot attend or it would be unreasonable in all the circumstances for their child to attend school for a period of more than 10 consecutive school days.
Situations where an application for an exemption may be made include:
- Illness
- Family reasons
- Cultural or religious reasons
If your child is exempt from compulsory schooling, you are excused from your obligation in relation to compulsory schooling.
The school principal is not responsible for providing an educational program for your child, however they may provide advice on other educational options available. Decisions about exemptions for up to one school year are made by the principal and decisions about exemptions for more than one school year are made by the relevant Regional Director of the Department of Education, Training and Employment, responsible for the supervision of the school your child attends.
Attendance Award - Week 4 and 5

Prep Parent-Teacher Check Ins
One week to go!
To check for availability, please go to https://eq.sobs.com.au/pt3/parent.php?schoolid=70355
Cranbrook State School invites all Prep parents to book in a time to meet with their child’s Prep Teacher in the coming weeks. This will commence the three way partnership that exists in each child’s journey through school and support a positive relationship of everyone working together to achieve the best outcomes for each individual child. During this time your child’s Teacher will provide a brief update on how your child is travelling so far, raise any initial concerns or observations and give an opportunity for you to ask or share anything that you feel is relevant.
Please contact our office if you have any enquiries.
What's On in Year 2
Writing poetry can be challenging, however, our clever students in 1/2E came up with this little poem about Cranbrook.
For Year 5 and 6 parents/carers
You are invited to join our dedicated Facebook page. Please search for 'Year 5 & 6 @ Cranbrook SS' and enter your child's name.
We often share updates, reminders, photos and lots more important info about learning, assessment and events. Parents are reminded to please keep comments/questions respectful and positive or they will be removed. Private messages to teachers will be ignored. Emails, phone calls or meetings remain the appropriate way to communicate.

The Arts Space
This week in The Arts, 6A had the opportunity to participate in a Townsville City Galleries Make a Mark Workshop with local artist Rhonda Payne. The class explored observational drawing - how to look at things like an artist. They learnt how to make different types of lines and how changing pencil pressure can affect a continuous line. Using their new observational skills 6A created drawings of their fist and then a fruit salad using watermelon, apples and bananas. 6A surprised themselves with the quality of their hands and fruit salad and enjoyed a slice of watermelon at the end. Thank you Rhonda for coming in and sharing your expertise with us!
......and the Year 2s have been busy with:
A bit of drama
.......and the Year 3s have been busy with:
Some ostinato war dances
.....and the Nightingale Chorus gave the Preps an entertaining performance

Breakfast Club
Our school, in conjuction with Food Relief NQ helps our students start their day right with a wholesome breakfast. We provide weetbix, toast and tin fruit - every morning!
Donations are no longer needed for spaghetti and baked beans, however, we'd love donations of honey please! Thank you!
Tuckshop news
We still have food going to the incorrect classes. Please check that your child's 2022 class is correct when ordering through the Qkr! system.
If your child will be away and has ordered tuckshop, please cancel the Qkr! order by 9am on the day.
Due to the weather event in the south east, it has been very difficult getting stock. Please bear with us, as choices are going to be a bit limited over the next few weeks. It may be a good idea to give your child the heads up also! Thanks for your patience.
Love to bake? Love to make a sandwich? Love to place pies in the oven? Love to chat? Guess what.....the tuckshop can help you tick all of those boxes! We'd love to have you volunteer with us for simple jobs such as these. Could you spare an hour? Half a day? 9-2? We'd love to see you. Please call in and chat to Lillian. Thank you.
Bookclub
Bookclub orders are due back Friday, 18 March at 9am. Ordering through Bookclub gives enjoyment to your children, makes great gifts and supports your school too!

P & C Annual General Meeting
The P&C AGM 2022, will be held on 16th March 2021, at 6pm in the Uniform Shop (location is subject to change, pending numbers). The AGM will be followed by the March General Meeting.
Have a look at our website:
The P&C group at Cranbrook is not about having to do a job. It's about coming together with a bunch of friendly people, to enjoy chatting and working together and giving your feedback to the Principal, to make Cranbrook an even better community. Participating in events becomes fun, when you do it alongside others and achieving some great resources for the school, will give you a wonderful sense of achievement. Projects we have been able to complete are: the school bus, the covered area at the front, various playgrounds and numerous other little enhancements. Don't be shy - come along and just see what it's about.

All positions and memberships are vacated at the AGM.
New memberships will be accepted. Please forward a completed membership form below, to pandc@cranbrookss.eq.edu.au or drop into the office before the meeting. The AGM is the only meeting that you are able to submit a membership form and it be accepted in your absence.
