Cranbrook Newsletter - Term 4 Week 6 2022
Principal's Message
Hello and welcome to our Week 6 newsletter! We will now be moving to weekly newsletters in the lead up to the end of school. There's a lot on, so please take the time to have a read and mark the important events on your calendar.
Before School Supervision
Thanks to our amazing P&C, students in the morning have a sheltered space to congregate until the school gates open at 8.00am, however, during this time there is NO SUPERVISION and as such students are left to their own devices.
When students are left to their own devices they can sometimes make poor choices regarding being SAFE, RESPONSIBLE and RESPECTFUL. Some concerns that have already been experienced by parents are:
- Students leaving the school grounds and walking to another address: KFC, Servo, Peers homes
- Students injuring themselves due to unsafe actions: running, jumping, climbing
- Students injuring other students due to unsafe actions: hitting, kicking, pushing
- High school students who have dropped their siblings off remaining in the sheltered area and interacting with students.
As a school, we will follow up and behaviours that breach the Cranbrook State School Student Code of Conduct if parents or students report any incidences once they enter the school grounds. Individual students may be restricted in their access to the school grounds when no supervision is available if ongoing and repeated behaviours place themselves or others at risk.
The Cranbrook Outside Hours School Care provides supervision from 6.00am and provide clients with a safe and enriched space both before and after school at a cost of approximately $12.00 per morning (after rebates) that includes breakfast.
I am sure as parents continue to drop their children off before 8.00am there will continue to be circumstances that place their child at risk of harm.
We are in a fortunate circumstance that our school provides a space inside the school grounds for our students to congregate as other schools (with new security fences) are required to ensure safety and security measures are adhered to by NOT opening their perimeter gates until supervision is provided by the school.
Finance Reminder
Due to all receipting closing from 3:00pm on Friday, 2nd December it would be appreciated if all 2022 payments could be made prior to this time.
Money can still be taken after this close-off point, but handwritten receipts will be available only.
All SRS fees are well overdue and parents/caregivers are reminded that payment needs to be finalised (or payment plan arranged with the BM.) if students are wanting to participate in any extra-curriculum activities e.g. swimming, graduation, sport, live performances.
Head Lice
There has been a large number of hair lice cases reported in the school recently. Treatment, as we all know, can be very costly and time consuming, but vigilant checking and treatment by ALL parents would assist in dramatically reducing the number of cases. Please be kind to your fellow Cranbrook families - have a check this weekend.
Safe Management of Bikes in the School Grounds
Students should walk bikes into and out of the school grounds. If students are repeatedly unsafe they will be required to lock their bikes to the fence and NOT bring them inside the school grounds.
2023 Prep Enrolments - Limited Spaces Available
If your child will be attending Cranbrook State School in 2023 you will need to ensure that the following tasks are completed as soon as possible to allow for class placement for 2023 to occur.
- Complete the enrolment form (PDF)
- Bring your child’s original birth certificate to the school so we can process your child’s enrolment.

2023 Enrolment Email
Thank you to the families who have replied to the email survey regarding your enrolment intentions for 2023. If you haven't yet done so, please advise us ASAP if your child will not be attending Cranbrook during 2023 as we are busily developing the new class lists that will be released to parents during week 9.
Remembrance Day
In 2022, the 11th of November marked the 104th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18). Each year, on this day, we join with our fellow Australians, to observe one minute’s silence at 11 am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.
Have a great weekend, everyone.
Regards,
Jeff Capell - Principal

Parents will receive a text message informing them that their child is absent. If you receive one of these text messages, please contact the school to explain the reason for your child’s absence.
A working mobile number should be registered with the school, if available.
Please remember that absence is only marked for the days specified by the parents. If you ring up on a Monday informing that your child is sick and they remain away from school for the following 2 days because they are sick you need to inform us that this was the reason for their absence. Absence For More Than 10 Days
What is an exemption and why do I need it?
Every parent of a child of compulsory school age has a legal obligation to ensure their child is enrolled and attending school. Parents can apply for an exemption from this obligation when their child cannot attend or it would be unreasonable in all the circumstances for their child to attend school for a period of more than 10 consecutive school days.
Situations where an application for an exemption may be made include:
- Illness
- Family reasons
- Cultural or religious reasons
If your child is exempt from compulsory schooling, you are excused from your obligation in relation to compulsory schooling.
The school principal is not responsible for providing an educational program for your child, however they may provide advice on other educational options available. Decisions about exemptions for up to one school year are made by the principal and decisions about exemptions for more than one school year are made by the relevant Regional Director of the Department of Education, Training and Employment, responsible for the supervision of the school your child attends.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
A big congratulations to our weekly PBL snappy winners:
Week 5 was Aaliyah.
......and Ayden was our Week 6 winner.
Thanks for being safe, responsible and respectable students!
In Week 5, we looked at being Respectful and the importance of encouraging and supporting others.
This week we looked at being Responsible and being determined to improve ourselves.
Week 7 will see us learning about being Respectful by including everyone.
In Week 8 we will look at being Responsible by accepting responsibility.
Learning at Cranbrook
In Technologies this week in Prep, we had to think about possible problems on a farm, why we need to solve them and how we were going to design a solution. We also took some farm produce, practised our cutting skills and made a yummy fruit salad!
The Year 1/2 Enrichment Program has seen students studying levers this term - they have even constructed their own Lever Launcher!
Here are some busy little bees from Year 2.....
The Year 4s had lots of fun too - outdoors with their science experiments!

See this amazing bunch of Year 3 students? They have been learning and having a ton of fun, with bucket drumming. Last week, they enjoyed learning a piece called 'Side Effects' so much, that they wanted to perform it for the Year 1 & 2 students during eating time! Great job kids! We love your enthusiasm.
In our Prep classes this week, we starting with singing 'Old MacDonald' and told the story with the felt board. Then we experimented with the drums and xylophones and learnt how to keep the beat.
We were also lucky enough to watch our big Year 6 buddies practising their dances for graduation.
Our monsters are almost complete! We are so clever at drawing the outline and then, using little bits of ripped paper that we ripped ourselves, decorating our designs.
Congratulations to the Arts Class of the Week for Week 5.....1/2E. This class was consistent and persistent in their effort for both Drama and Music. They were a kind and respectful audience in Drama and played their piece 'Pumpkin Pumpkin' in time for music!
Congratulations also to 4A, who were the Arts Class of the Week for Week 6, awarded for their focus in group work, their creative thinking when choosing their dance movements and their kindness and inclusion of everyone when making group decisions.
Well done everyone!
Our Christmas Chaos Concert is just around the corner! Make sure this is marked on your calendar - you don't want to miss it. Please read the attached note as it has all the details you will need to know.
Sports News

Congratulations to Week 5's HPE Class of the Week....3A for their hard work in health, their amazing focus during PE and wonderful effort during skipping.
......and to 5A for their excellent research skills during health and their hardwork and focus, 100% of the time!
Now for lots of events coming up.....

A few other things.....
Chappy and the wellbeing team are collecting donations again this year for Christmas hampers for some of our Cranbrook families. If you would like to give something, there will be a basket located in the staff room where you can leave your donations. Donations will be collected from the staff room on Friday of week 9. Our Cranbrook families are always so grateful for these hampers, so we thank you for your support and generosity in making this happen.
Have your children grown out of their uniforms? Are you looking to spruce them up and get some new uniforms for next year and are wondering what you could do with your old ones? We would really appreciate your unwanted uniforms in order to provide for any of our Cranbrook families who may need a helping hand. We are in need of shorts especially. Please consider if you are able to be generous in this way - the office will gratefully take them off your hands! Thank you.
