Principal's Message
Hello! My calendar says 'Count your Blessings', so I am: two weeks of school left!
2022 School Leaders
Congratulations to the elected School Captains, Arts Captains, Indigenous Captains and Sports House Captains for 2022. All staff look forward to working with you next year.
2023 Classes and Teacher Release
Parents and students will receive their class lists for 2022 on Friday in Week 9. As with any release of information some students and parents may be pleased or disappointed with the situation they are placed in.
If you strongly object to either the teacher placement or the peers, you are requested to put your request in writing and outline the EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES that would deem it necessary to move classes. Please forward your requests to The Principal by Friday, 9th December and mark your correspondence PRIVATE and CONFIDENTIAL. A decision will be made on all requests the week before school begins so new enrolments can be taken into account. No early decisions will be made.
Please be aware that these lists are only DRAFT and the final class lists, teachers and rooms will only be finalised in 2022 after Day 8.

Supporting Positive Transitions to Prep
There are many ways a parent or carer can help their child transition from home or kindy to school.
Take a look at the short video from the Department of Education, "Early Childhood and Community Engagement - Principal Daniel Evans". This video is one of several videos on the Early Childhood Education and Care website, designed to assist families, early education and care services and schools to support positive transitions to Prep.
Clubs
Breakfast Club will cease on Friday 2nd December (Week 9) and will recommence in Week 2 of 2023. A big thank you to everyone who has donated food items and helped throughout the year (including our students). Breakfast Club is a wonderful service for the Cranbrook Community.

Regular, punctual attendance at school is expected of all students. Students should be present at school ready to prepare for the day's learning by 8:30am.
Late Arrivals
Students arriving after 8:50am must report to the office to receive a lateslip. If a student is late, a letter of explanation from the student's parent/guardian must be presented to the office staff on arrival.
Absence
If a student is absent and the parent/guardian has not notified the school, they will receive an automated text message by 10am that day.
Parents will receive a text message informing them that their child is absent. If you receive one of these text messages, please contact the school to explain the reason for your child’s absence.
A working mobile number should be registered with the school, if available.
Please remember that absence is only marked for the days specified by the parents. If you ring up on a Monday informing that your child is sick and they remain away from school for the following 2 days because they are sick you need to inform us that this was the reason for their absence. You can inform us after the absence via a message directly to the teacher or by contacting our absence hotline or email.
If your child is absent, please leave a message detailing:
- Child's name
- Class
- Reason for absence
- Dates or duration of absence
Absence Hotline - 4726 1260
Absence Email - absences@cranbrookss.eq.edu.au
Absence For More Than 10 Days
What is an exemption and why do I need it?
Every parent of a child of compulsory school age has a legal obligation to ensure their child is enrolled and attending school. Parents can apply for an exemption from this obligation when their child cannot attend or it would be unreasonable in all the circumstances for their child to attend school for a period of more than 10 consecutive school days.
Situations where an application for an exemption may be made include:
- Illness
- Family reasons
- Cultural or religious reasons
If your child is exempt from compulsory schooling, you are excused from your obligation in relation to compulsory schooling.
The school principal is not responsible for providing an educational program for your child, however they may provide advice on other educational options available. Decisions about exemptions for up to one school year are made by the principal and decisions about exemptions for more than one school year are made by the relevant Regional Director of the Department of Education, Training and Employment, responsible for the supervision of the school your child attends.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
A big congratulations to our two PBL snappy winners this week!
Willow and Samicky
Well done, students - thanks for being safe, responsible and respectful!
In our PBL lesson this week, we looked at being Responsible and the importance of accepting responsibility. Here's a helpful poster with pointers for having converstions with your children about accepting responsibility and suggestions on how to implement it in your own household and community.
Next week we'll take a look at being respectful and making sure we
respect other people's property and privacy.
Learning at Cranbrook
This term, students have been working hard to complete their 2022 assessments. We are so proud of their efforts - there has been great improvement right across the cohort! They are all equipped and ready to be awesome Year 5 students in 2023. Thanks kids - it's been fun!
Reading Awards
At Cranbrook, we really value our students reading and so we award their positive reading habits by giving certificates once they have read for 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200, 225 AND 250 nights! We also recognise the families who help them along too - thank you.
This week, these two amazing little students reached the massive achievement of having read for 250 nights this year!
To celebrate their achievement, Tobias and Tabitha were able to choose a brand new book each.
Well done to both of you.
2023 Laptop Scheme
Year 4, 5 & 6 (in 2023) SSRS Scheme- Laptop included
Current year 3, 4 & 5 students choosing the option to have a School Laptop included in their 2023 SSRS fees have the opportunity to collect their hire Laptop at the end of 2022 for use during the Christmas holiday break. This will be on a first in-best dressed arrangement until current stocks are depleated.
Information in regards to ICT Laptop Usage and Programs for 2023 is available on the Cranbrook State School Website or from administration. A link to the handbook can be found at the bottom of this article.
A Loan Agreement form (available on website or from Administration) is to be completed and returned along with a minimum $50 deposit towards their 2023 SSSRS fees before students may collect their Laptop. (Insert link)
Students will be required to provide their own laptop bag for the duration of the school holidays and will receive a Cranbrook School Laptop bag to use upon return to school in 2023.
** IMPORTANT ** Laptops and laptops bags have been ordered and we are now waiting for suppliers to send these to the school. With the current global circumstances that is seeing delays in supply, we will keep parents informed as information comes to hand. We have already been notified that our current order placed in October will be delayed, with delivery to occur during Term 1. We have not received a notification from the laptop bag supplier that these will be delayed at this stage. If laptop bags are delayed, students can access a laptop if they supply their own laptop bag, so as to have access to the laptop from the beginning of the year.
Due to this, the school will issue credits of $1 per day for parents who have paid the SRSS until students receive their laptops. Parents will not need to apply for this credit - it will be processed automatically.
Current Year 3 Students - Students will be issued with a new laptop that will be held by the student until the end of Year 6 or until their enrolment ceases.
Current Year 4 Students - Students will be issued with a new laptop OR a one-year old laptop that will be held by the student until the end of Year 6 or until their enrolment ceases.
Current Year 5 Students - Students who are already part of the 1 to 1 Laptop program will retain their laptop until the end of Year 6 or until their enrolment ceases. Students who are NOT part of the current 1 to 1 Laptop program will receive a one or two-year-old laptop that will be held by the student until the end of Year 6 or until their enrolment ceases.
From The Arts
Congratulations to 1A - winners of the 'Arts Class of the Week'. This class received the most gems in their lesson for
- excellent effort in all music making
- following instructions first time every time
- being kind and caring towards their classmates
Well done 1A!
Our big news for this week, was our awesome and very successful Christmas Chaos Concert! A huge well done to all the students involved and a huge thanks to everyone who helped out. A special mention to our lovely alumni kids who returned to hand out the certificates and join us for the song 'Gift Wrap Rap' at the end. We also have to give an extra special mention to Sasha, who performed a lovely solo on her clarinet.
It's just amazing to see that we have so many students involved in so many different aspects of our Arts Program.
Thank you parents and carers for your support.
Sports News
Last Friday, the Cranbrook mixed touch team competed at the Northern Region Touch gala day. The team went through the day undefeated, winning a tough grand final against Hermit Park State School 2-2 by first try scorer rule. The team played awesome touch throughout the day and did a great job representing the school. Congratulations students and thanks Mr Wilson for your expert coaching!
A huge congratulations to our Atylda, who recently competed for Queensland, in the multi-class athletics in Brisbane. Atylda came 5th in her 100m race, 5th in her 200m race and was awarded this beautiful bronze medal for 3rd place in long jump. Atylda loved the travel, the competition and the new friends she made along the way. One of the best things she was impressed by, was the friendliness and kindness of all her fellow competitors. Well done Atylda - we are so excited and proud of you. Thanks too, to Mr Wilson, her coach, who spent a lot of lunch time hours encouraging and guiding Atylda.

Our Cohort Parades!
Did you know, that in addition to our regular Thursday parades, each year level meets together once a week?
The 'Cohort Parade' exists to
- acknowledge the positive behaviour that has been displayed throughout that week
- give an update with what's going on
- celebrate birthdays
- celebrate other out-of-school achievements
- announce the winner of the cohort attendance award
- present the weekly PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) focus
- present the PBL awards to acknowledge Attendance, Behaviour, Excellence in Learning and Kindness
- present the Arts and HPE student of the week award, if applicable
There is also a 'Snappy Draw' that gives one student from each class, a $1 voucher to spend at the Tuckshop and a Cohort 'Snappy Draw' that gives one student from that year level, a $2.50 Tuckshop voucher. Students receive 'snaps' throughout the week for various safe, responsible and respectful behaviour they are spotted doing in class and around the school.
Cohort parades are a great opportunity to build on the rapport within the year level.
RACQ Streets Ahead safety program is heading our way next week!
Cranbrook School Bus Service
We are now accepting applications for our 2023 School Bus Collection Service.
Did you know that we offer a pick up/drop off bus service each morning and afternoon? Thanks to our amazing P&C group, who saw the need for us to assist every one of our Cranbrook families, a bus was purchased (and later another one!) and is now used for excursions, sporting events, arts events and to help our families get our students to and from school.
Applications will be considered on a "first in, best dressed" basis and a two week deposit is required to secure your child's position for 2023. To maintain your position on the bus throughout the year, your account must remain in credit. Parents will be advised if their child's collection service will cease due to a $0.00 credit amount.
Please contact our office if you require any further information.
If you are interested in accessing this service for your child, please complete the form (PDF below) and return to the office.

A couple of other things.....
Chappy and the wellbeing team are collecting donations again this year for Christmas hampers for some of our Cranbrook families. If you would like to give something, there will be a basket located in the staff room where you can leave your donations. Donations will be collected from the staff room on Friday of week 9. Our Cranbrook families are always so grateful for these hampers, so we thank you for your support and generosity in making this happen.
Have your children grown out of their uniforms? Are you looking to spruce them up and get some new uniforms for next year and are wondering what you could do with your old ones? We would really appreciate your unwanted uniforms in order to provide for any of our Cranbrook families who may need a helping hand. We are in need of shorts especially. Please consider if you are able to be generous in this way - the office will gratefully take them off your hands! Thank you.
