Principal's Message
Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to Term 2.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Thanks very much to those families who were willing and able to take the time out to attend our Parent/Teacher Interviews last night. We really appreciate you connecting with us.
If you weren't able to make an appointment, please remember that you are welcome to contact your child's teacher via email, with any concerns or queries you may have. Our staff email list is attached below.
Anzac Day Commemorative Service
On Monday we held an Anzac Day Commemorative Service at our school hall in solemn remembrance of the anniversary of the Australian and New Zealander landings in Gallipoli. Thank you to the families and invited guests who were able to join us this morning.
Anzac Day March at the Strand
Our School Captains (and their families) selflessly represented our school and attended the Dawn Service with Mr Capell, laying a wreath in respect of our ANZACs.
Cranbrook students and staff then participated in the Anzac Day parade along the Strand together with veterans and returned service organisations, active military units, other local schools, and eligible community groups and service organisations.
Well done and thank you to our students who did a great job being patient for so long before the parade began and for their focus while walking along.
Term 2 Environmental Captains
The very responsible job of being a Class Environmental Captain has been given to these students for Term 2. Thanks in advance for being safe, responsible and respectful as you go about your duties every afternoon.

Term 2 Extra Curricular Activities
During Term 2, Cranbrook State School will offer a wide range of Extra-Curricular Activities for students to participate in, due to the generosity and enthusiasm of the teachers who volunteer their own time. Some parents may have noticed that the Piano offer to participate in this extra-curricular activity, have already been emailed.
The Process for Term 2:
- A schedule of the extra-curricular activities will be released via email and newsletter in Week 1 and 2 of Term 2.
- Extra-curricular activities begin and conclude at different times during the term.
- Students will be reminded through morning announcements during week 2 of the activities that are available on that day.
- If students attend on that day, the teacher will make a decision as to who can and who cannot attend based on numbers.
- If the activity is an afternoon or before school activity, all students can attend in Week 2 to determine who can join.
Please discuss with your child about what opportunities they may wish to be involved in and remind them about their attendance on a weekly basis.
Enjoy the long weekend! See you again on Tuesday.

Positive Behaviour for Learning
Cranbrook is a PBL School.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a whole-school framework that promotes positive behaviour across our school and helps us develop safe and supportive learning environments.
We choose to implement the PBL framework to make sure all students are explicitly taught the expected behaviours and to establish clear and consistent boundaries. Our staff take a proactive, preventative approach to ensure all students receive the appropriate level of support to help them to be successful at school.
Each week, we teach one focus - ten focus behaviours across the term and then revisit each of these, in the following terms throughout the year.
For the first two weeks of Term 2, we revised how to be Responsible and follow routines and transitions and how to be Safe and act safely always. Have a chat at home - you may find these tips helpful.
It was a 'Whole School Parade' in Week 1, so we awarded TWO Snappy Winners!
Congratulations to Jasara and Olivia
who each receive $5 to spend at the Tuckshop!
Well done! Thanks for being Safe, Responsible and Respectful Cranbrook Learners!
(no snappy draw for Week 2)
Next week we will talk about being Respectful and showing self-respect, courtesy and pride.
Then in Week 4, we will look at being Responsible and acting as an upstander.
What are we learning this term?
Learning in Prep
Our youngest students quickly settled back into their routines and were back to learning Day 1.
We learnt to describe what a character looks like and describe what they are doing. We learnt to measure using our feet and counters. We sorted real objects into their shapes. We went exploring around our school being Scientists and recording very important scientific information about what objects are made of. In HPE we practised our catching. We have been very busy little bees!

Students in Prep, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 borrow 2 Home Readers and 1 'Read for Pleasure' book.
Students in Years 4, 5 and 6 can borrow 2 books.
Please return your child’s home reader and library books on the following days:
The Arts Space
Rehearsals for our 2023 Musical, Mystery at Magpie Manor continue. Please find below the rehearsal schedule for those students who have lead roles.
Congratulations to Week 1's Class of the Week.....5C for working collaboratively to create a Melodrama Scene, for their commitment to improve their musical song and dance numbers and for maintaining their focus throughout their lessons.
......and to 1/2D for being awarded Class of the Week for Week 2!
Mr Henry's 1/2D were just great at being flexible and working well as a team, at creating their own song and having excellent listening skills.
Sports News
Our students are having a great time participating in interschool sport on Thursdays. Thanks Parents, for giving them their reminders each week to bring their hat, suncream, necessary gear for their sport and a waterbottle.
Here's a picture of our netball stars!
PLEASE REMEMBER.....Tuckshop is NOT AVAILABLE at 2nd break for all students going to sport. It is not recommended for 1st break either, for those students doing Rugby League.
Miss Isabella McMinn competed in her very first horse riding competition on the weekend. Bella first remembers getting on a horse when she was about 4 years old and has continued to love horses ever since! She even has her very own horse, Rookie (and I'm told she didn't name him after her cousin!) who she loves to care for. Bella enjoyed everything about her competition, but particularly the racing and jumping, which shows with her being awarded 4th place in two races and a ribbon for being the fastest through the course. Well done Bella! (Thanks to Anita Horton Photography for the photo of Bella)
Congratulations to Class of the Week for Week 1.......Mr Wilson's 5B! This class worked hard, had excellent focus and outstanding persistence. Well done.

Our Guidance Officer!
With this week being 'Guidance Officers Week' we want to give a special shout out and huge thanks to Cranbrook's GO, Drew. We really appreciate having you here!
Let's get to know him a little....
Drew, where were you born? Townsville
Where did you first start teaching? At the YMCA in Brisbane.
At what point in your life did you decide to become a Guidance Officer? It was in 2012.
What is your favourite part of your job? It would definitely be the opportunity to support children.
What then would be your most challenging part of the job? One day is never the same as the next!
Away from work, what do you most like to do? Just simply spend time with my family.
Thanks Drew - thanks for being at Cranbrook!
Senior Shirts are here!
.......and don't they look great!
Engagement and Wellbeing Survey
In Term 2, students in Years 4 to 6 will be asked to take part in the Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey.
We know that wellbeing and engagement are important parts of your child’s life at school. The QEW Survey is designed to measure how students view their wellbeing and engagement across different topics. The information we get from the survey helps us better understand and support our students.
If you have any questions, please contact the school. More information, including FAQs, can be found on the Education website: https://qed.qld.gov.au/publications/reports/statistics/schooling/students/queensland-engagement-wellbeing-survey
