Eavesdropping on Researchers

Kids do Better when Parents are Involved in School Life
Recent research confirms that family involvement in education can improve future opportunities for children, regardless of background. For tips on the best way to positively support your child’s education and future success, try the Triple P – Positive Parenting Program. It’s free in Queensland.
Helping your Child to Learn
Did you know that there are some simple things parents can do to help their children learn across all year levels? Talking with your child about their learning and goals, and limiting screen time can make a difference. For more ideas on ways to engage with your child’s learning visit https://education.qld.gov.au/parents-and-carers/community-engagement/parents
Have You Registered for QParents Yet?
Are you using QParents to stay in contact with our school and to access information about your child’s schooling? If you haven’t yet registered for QParents, register now. QParents is a great way to stay informed about what’s happening in your child’s school life.
You can provide your 100 points of identity documents for registration online through QParents, or in person at your school. If you have limited identity documents, or experience difficulties with registering, please contact our school for help.
School Uniform Policy
Cranbrook is a uniform wearing school.
All students should come dressed each day in the full school uniform:
- Shorts/Skorts
- Polo – school and sports
- HAT (no other hats should be worn and students will be asked to place non-school hats in their bags)
Cranbrook School Uniforms can be purchased from the P&C Uniform Shop located at the back of the Hall, or online at https://cranbrook-state-school-pc-association.mybigcommerce.com/
Lost Property
There are a number lost property items in our large undercover area. If your child is missing any of their belongings, please ask them to check the lost property area.
Please remember to clearly label all of your child's belongings so that lost items can easily be identified and returned.
Academic Achievement Awards
At our Junior and Senior Parades over the next few weeks, students who achieved four or more A's on their report cards for Semester One will be awarded an Academic Achievement Award. Parents will also be invited to attend the recognition of this amazing achievement, BUT, we like to keep it a secret from these students until the day!
Our Academic Achievement Award recognises students in Years 3 to 6 who achieved four or more A's across all learning areas. Congratulations to these Cranbrook Learners on their outstanding achievement, demonstrating commitment and excellence towards their learning.
Staff Changes
A very big warm welcome to Mrs Kate Dowzall who has joined us from NZ and is taking 2C for the remainder of the year.
The permanent Deputy Principal process has now concluded with Mr Kyle Sanim deemed the successful applicant. Shannon Morgan will continue in the Acting Deputy Principal until the end of week 6, with Kyle taking up his position on Monday 21st August (Week 7).
Mark Carrington has joined our staff doing the morning and afternoon bus runs for the large blue bus and we also welcome Yasmin and Alison as Teacher Aides, to our SEP team.
Our much loved office lady Nellie, has taken some leave this term and so you'll see the amazing Rachael in the office. Miss Nat has moved from Literacy Intervention over to Prep B as their Teacher Aide and Miss Kellie has moved into Literacy Intervention for the remainder of Term 3.
NAPLAN results
Students who participated in NAPLAN this year from Years 3 and 5, took home their results this week. Parents seeking further information about the tests and results, can take a look at the flyer attached below.
Queensland Child Oral Health Study
Cranbrook State School is pleased to partner with The University of Queensland and Queensland Health to conduct the Queensland Child Oral Health Study (QCOHS) 2021-24. This is an opportunity for a free dental check-up at school while helping dental care research in Queensland.
Further information can be found below.
The annual suite of School Opinion Surveys will be conducted in this term and will close on 18 August 2023.
All families, school staff and students in target year levels (5, 6, 8 and 11) are invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve. Please note: this survey is in addition to our own school 'Traffic Light' survey that was previously sent out to our families.
An invitation to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey was emailed to one parent/caregiver per family in the week beginning 17 July. The invitation was sent from the Department of Education, not the school, and has the subject line School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2023. Check your junk email folders if you can’t find it. The survey can be completed as soon as the invitation is received and will take approximately 5 minutes using a computer, tablet or smart phone.
Thank you in advance, for taking the time to give your feedback. We appreciate it.

Cranbrook is a UNIFORM SCHOOL
As we enjoy some cooler weather, the Cranbrook P&C have reinforced that Cranbrook State School is a UNIFORM school.
Thank you to those parents who have been able to ensure their child represents the school with pride by wearing the school’s Winter Uniform Policy.
We will continue to send a note home to remind parents of our uniform requirements, should your child be wearing a non-Cranbrook jumper. Students who have a Cranbrook jacket or jumper will receive a snap and go in the draw to win some Cranbrook cash!
Please feel free to contact your child's Year Level Principal (Shannon Morgan – Prep, Yr 2, Yr 4 & Yr 6 & Jeff Capell – Yr 1, Yr 3 & Yr 5) if you wish to discuss the uniform expectations.
The Uniform Shop is open each morning from 8-9am and payment may be made by cash or card. Alternatively, you can order via the P&C’s Big Commerce website and the purchase will be delivered to your child's classroom.
The school jacket is $45. The school jumper is $30.

A big thanks to our Winter Uniform Snappy Winners for Week 3, Ruby and for Week 2, Nevaeh, for being responsible and respectful Cranbrook learners and having the appropriate winter uniform!

Thank you to all the families who support us in ensuring their children are responsible and respectful Cranbrook Learners.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
Congratulations goes to our Week 3 PBL snappy winner.....Marcel!
.....and congratulations goes to Week 4 winner.....Dumani!
Thanks for being a safe, responsible and respectable students.
In Week 3, our PBL lesson was about respectful. Our statement was 'I show self-respect, courtesy and pride'. In Week 4, we have focused on responsibly and how to act as an up-stander.
Here are the flyers with some handy hints with what and how to chat about this at home.
In Week 5, we will look at being respectful, with the statement I encourage and support others'.
In Week 6, we will look at being responsible and being determined to improve.
Cranbrook Learning
Our little Preps are doing SO WELL! Here are this week's awards on cohort parade.
Learning outside is always super fun too! Here we are drawing features of our playground for our HASS lesson. (Mrs Wills said we were so cute and so engaged and so well behaved!)
A huge WELL DONE to this little group of amazing readers! Thanks for being committed to reading as much as you can!
Global Tropics
The QVSA (Queensland Virtual STEM Academy) gives select students the opportunity to take part in enrichment and extension programs focusing on current, real world science, technology, engineering and mathematical challenges and research. Classes are delivered through an innovative, real time, online learning platform during school hours from schools across the regions.
Congratulations to Faith, James, Tariqe and Brock on completion of their sessions.
Here are current students, Eevee, Tyler, Emelea and Skye with a couple of their experiments.
If you and/or your child is interested in STEM pathways, here's a free community event that's coming up!
Challenge Games
What a fabulous day our students and staff had at this year's Challenge Games! They threw and jumped and ran their way through the day, enjoying time with each other and a chance to meet some new friends too.
From The Arts
Back in Term 2, several of our students were successful in receiving places in the very prestigious SHEP - State Honours Ensemble Program, conducted by the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. Our students felt very privileged and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity they were given to learn and develop their skills.
Sadly, we weren't able to make this a school excursion, however, we wanted you to know about this very funny, very worthwhile show that is coming up at the Civic Theatre next week. Go if you can!
Our musical will be performed this term!
Please read the costume note and the rehearsal schedule carefully and let us know of any concerns you may have.
Please keep encouraging your child to practise. A musical is not just about the lead parts.....EVERYONE is a vital part (and they are getting assessed too!).
Thank you everyone!
Have you been down to see the amazing art displayed along the Strand for Ephemera this year? Way back in Term 1, our Visual Arts Excellence students, created little mushrooms to add to a combined schools of Townsville display. These little Cranbrook Learners were very excited to spot Oscar's blue mushroom!
Have you had the chance to have a look at our mini art gallery in the office?
Our students are just amazing!
CONGRATULATIONS to our Arts Class of the Week!
Week 3 was 3C who were given this award for
- their kindness to one another
- enthusiasm towards learning
- teamwork
Week 4 was 6B, awarded for their
- enthusiastically playing new music games
- attempting responding questions with confidence
- being kind and supportive to their buddies in preparation for NAIDOC week
Sports News
Round two of Interschool Sport has now finished.
Having the opportunity to get outside, run around, learn new skills and develop current ones - practice team spirit, using patience and persistence, participating in sport is really worthwhile! Our students had a fabulous time with their soccer and touch football and received many compliments on the way they conducted themselves.
Soccer - While not taking home any trophies this year, our Division Two Boys Soccer team came away with their first win yesterday and last week, our girls had their first win.....and it was a beauty: 7 - 1. They were VERY excited.
Touch Football - Yesterday was a big day for Cranbrook's Touch Football teams, with all 4 of our schools' competitive teams in the grand final for their respective competitions.
Our Year 5 girls' team were dominant throughout the entire season winning all of their games to earn the B1 Girls Premiership.
Our Year 5 boys' team played against Holy Spirit in the grand final winning 8-5 to become the B1 Boys Premiers.
Unfortunately, both our year 6 teams lost their grand finals however both teams can walk away with their heads held high after competing right until the very end of the game.

Athletics training has now concluded.
Students have been selected and confirmed in our Cranbrook Team, to complete at the Interschool Athletics Carnival this Wednesday, 9 August. Please make sure you completed the permission form, emailed to you via SOBS.

Please contact Mrs Woods with any further questions you may have: lmvon0@eq.edu.au.
Class of the week for Week 3 was the lovely 2C.
Last term, Jordan ran in the North Queensland Cross Country, in the rain and freezing weather! Although not placing in the top group, Jordan beat his Townsville time and was proud of that. We're proud of you too, Jordan. Well done.
Cranbrook School and our HPE section particularly, were the grateful recipients of $5000 from State Member for Mundingburra, Mr Les Walker MP. This money will go towards replacing our high jump mats. Our Athletics Age Champions had the privilege of receiving their medals from Mr Walker at parade. Thanks Mr Walker!

BOOKWEEK
read - grow - inspire
This is the theme for the 2023 Children's Book Week. We have taken this theme and used it as inspiration for our free dress day and our colouring competition.
On Thursday 24 August, we invite our students (and staff!) to use this theme and come as what they would like to be when they grow up! Please remember to still be respectful and sunsafe in what you wear and please bring a gold coin donation for our Student Council.
Our colouring competition will be handed out to students on Monday and must be returned to the library by Wednesday 16 August. The entries will be judged and we'll let the winners know in time for the start of Book Week on Monday 21 August. You can begin your entries now by downloading the appropriate age colouring below.
