Staff Update
We are very excited to have a new Chaplain begin with us on Monday. Chappy Tim is thoughtful, wise and fun and has a huge heart for helping children. We are sure our staff and students will benefit from Tim's guidance and warmth.
Here's a little note from Tim:
Hi guys. Looking forward to kicking off on Monday! My name is Tim Canavan or (Chappy Tim as I'm known) and I'm very excited to be the new chaplain at Cranbrook State School. I'll be at Cranbrook on Mondays and Tuesdays. I am married to Kylie and we have 3 daughters (Grade 3, 2 and Prep). I like fishing and watching sports of all types and playing soccer. (Go Matildas!!). I am looking forward to meeting everyone and supporting students as part of the wellbeing team.

Positive Behaviour for Learning
Congratulations to our Week 5 PBL snappy winner.....Ashton!
Thanks for being a safe, responsible and respectable student, Ashton.
(no draw for Week 6)
In Week 5, our PBL lesson was about respect. Our statement was 'I encourage and support others'.
In Week 6, we focused on responsibly and being determined to improve.
Here are the flyers with some handy hints with what and how to chat about this at home.
In Week 7, we will look at being respectful and including others.
In Week 8, we will look at being responsible and actually accepting responsibility.
Cranbrook Learning
Year 5 students are writing fantasy narratives this term and we'd like to share with you Faith's amazing piece of work.
Townsville City Council's Tree Planting Day

Solid Pathways STEM Program
Solid Pathways–STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) online program is an extension program for high-achieving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students attending Queensland state schools. The program enables students to develop STEM capabilities and nurtures their scientific curiosity through critical and creative thinking.
Solid Pathways–STEM enables students in Years 4 to 6 to engage in an innovative, enriching STEM-focused academic curriculum through the online platform iSee. The program draws on the Australian Curriculum's general capability, critical and creative thinking, and embedding the cross-curriculum priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures. Students have the opportunity to build upon both their existing sense of cultural identity as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their self-efficacy as high achieving students. Solid Pathways–STEM aims to inspire students' passion and aspiration to pursue STEM pathways.
Congratulations to Kiarna, Jacinta, Ziai and Tyson on completion of their program.
On 25 July, Solid Pathways students were given the opportunity to go out to JCU for an exciting day of activities. Thanks to Chloe for this great report......
JCU Experience Day - by Year 5 student, Chloe Dalton
We first made 3D shapes and we used them to make buildings out of uncooked spaghetti and marshmellows. We then had lunch. After we had lunch, we learnt all about the 6 (out of 7) sea turtles that can be found in Australia. Then we saw a building with an aquarium with a baby crocodile, two lizards, a snake and fish. Then we did experiments. We did one to show us what it looked like to make rain and we also did one of how to make a cloud and then we went back to school.

BOOKWEEK
read - grow - inspire
This is the theme for the 2023 Children's Book Week. We have taken this theme and used it as inspiration for our library activities, free dress day and our colouring competition.
On Thursday 24 August, we invite our students (and staff!) to use this theme and come as what they would like to be when they grow up! Remember to still be respectful and sunsafe in what you wear. Please note: this is NOT a free dress day, but a Book Week dress up day, therefore no gold coin donation is required.
Would you like to be an artist? A worker in a Pizza Shop? A Tradie? Well, come and be inspired each day this coming week, in our library with our super activities!
Look out for Monday's email, detailing the winners of our colouring competition!
