Year 6 Graduation
The Year 6 Graduation Ceremony is on Monday 7th December at Ignatius Park College.
A reminder to Year 6 students - students with outstanding SRS fees will not be receiving an invitation to the graduation unless other financial arrangements have been made.
Finance Reminder
Due to all receipting closing from 3:00pm on Friday, 4th December it would be appreciated if all 2020 payments could be made prior to this time.
Money can still be taken after this close-off point, but handwritten receipts will be available only.
All SRS fees are well overdue and parents/caregivers are reminded that payment needs to be finalised (or payment plan arranged with the BM.) if students are wanting to participate in any extra-curriculum activities e.g. swimming, graduation, sport, live performances.
Student Resource Scheme 2021
Thank you to those parents who have made a decision regarding the Student Resource and Stationery Scheme for 2021.
For those parents who have decided to participate in 2021 by signing the SRSS form and making the $150 payment (10% discount if paid before school starts), congratulations to you, as you have already fulfilled your parental responsibility to provide the required resources for your child’s education. Our school will ensure they have all the required equipment the entire year.
For those parents who have decided to opt out of the scheme AND have returned the Participation Form informing us of that, congratulations to you, as you have taken the first step and you now only need to source the listed resources. Please ensure when you are purchasing the consumable and non-consumable items to clearly mark your child’s name on their belongings as these will be needed every year. For any items that are missing we will contact you on the first day to ensure you can source these before the next day of school so your child can have access to all the resources they require. Your teachers will no doubt be in regular contact throughout the year so you can supply further resources when your child uses the current resources or loses them. If parents don’t supply the consumable items in a timely manner the school will provide your child with the resources and invoice parents the appropriate retail price as listed in our School Resource and Stationery Scheme documentation.
For those parents who forget to opt in or out of the School Resource and Stationery Scheme by completing a Participation Form AND/OR have forgotten to pay the SRSS Fees of $150 you will be contacted on the first day to make the appropriate arrangements by the end of the day so your child can access the classroom with their peers with the required resources for learning.
There will be a 10% discount for full payments before the first day of school. A further 10% discount applies for families with more than one child. Below is a table explaining the discounts. Parents are expected to have paid the fees (part (50%) or full) on the first day of school OR ensure your child has all the required stationery and resources ready to start school.
Pay Before 27th January | Pay after 27th January | |
Child 1 | $135.00 | $150.00 |
Child 2 | $121.50 | $135.00 |
Child 3 | $121.50 | $135.00 |
Child 4 | $121.50 | $135.00 |
Child 5 | $121.50 | $135.00 |
2021 Prep Enrolments – Limited places available
If your child will be attending Cranbrook State School in 2021 you will need to ensure that the following tasks are completed to process your child's enrolment.
- Complete the enrolment form.
- Bring your child’s original birth certificate to the school.
Cranbrook State School Bus Service
Cranbrook State School operates its own private bus service for use by students travelling to and from school and for other school related activities such as excursions. The collection of students will be from their residence or other parent allocated collection point.
It is expected that we will be running two bus services in 2021 to cater for the growing demand. Below is further details around the services and costs.
Bus Driver Needed
We are still taking applications for a casual bus driver for 10 hours per week (7.30am to 8.30am & 3.00pm to 4.00pm daily). Casual pay rate of approximately $32.00 per hour.
Clubs
Breakfast Club has ceased and will recommence in Week 2 of 2021. A big thank you to everyone who has donated food items and helped throughout the year (including our students). Breakfast Club is a wonderful service for the Cranbrook Community.
Homework Club has ceased for the remainder of the year and will recommence in Week 2 of 2021.

Every Day Counts - Attendance
Regular, punctual attendance at school is expected of all students. Students should be present at school ready to prepare for the day's learning by 8:30am.
Late Arrivals
Students arriving after 8:50am must report to the office to receive a lateslip. If a student is late, a letter of explanation from the student's parent/guardian must be presented to the office staff on arrival.
Absence
If a student is absent and the parent/guardian has not notified the school, they will receive an automated text message by 10am that day.
Parents will receive a text message informing them that their child is absent. If you receive one of these text messages, please contact the school to explain the reason for your child’s absence.
A working mobile number should be registered with the school, if available.
Please remember that absence is only marked for the days specified by the parents. If you ring up on a Monday informing that your child is sick and they remain away from school for the following 2 days because they are sick you need to inform us that this was the reason for their absence. You can inform us after the absence via a message directly to the teacher or by contacting our absence hotline or email.
If your child is absent, please leave a message detailing:
- Child's name
- Class
- Reason for absence
- Dates or duration of absence
Absence Hotline - 4726 1260
Absence Email - absences@cranbrookss.eq.edu.au
Absence For More Than 10 Days
What is an exemption and why do I need it?
Every parent of a child of compulsory school age has a legal obligation to ensure their child is enrolled and attending school. Parents can apply for an exemption from this obligation when their child cannot attend or it would be unreasonable in all the circumstances for their child to attend school for a period of more than 10 consecutive school days.
Situations where an application for an exemption may be made include:
- Illness
- Family reasons
- Cultural or religious reasons
If your child is exempt from compulsory schooling, you are excused from your obligation in relation to compulsory schooling.
The school principal is not responsible for providing an educational program for your child, however they may provide advice on other educational options available. Decisions about exemptions for up to one school year are made by the principal and decisions about exemptions for more than one school year are made by the relevant Regional Director of the Department of Education, Training and Employment, responsible for the supervision of the school your child attends.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
From the Head of Curriculum
Please watch this quick video that explains how to understand your child's report card results. If you have any questions about any results please contact the school to speak to the relevant teacher for that learning area.

Student Code of Conduct
The Student Code of Conduct has now been ratified at the last P&C meeting so will therefore come into effect in 2021. This can be accessed online on our website and will be given to any new enrolments moving forward.
I want to take this opportunity to thank the Cranbrook School Community for your warm welcome throughout the year. I have had the pleasure of being involved in many of the wonderful Cranbrook initiatives that we offer our students and work with a fantastic staff team, and I look forward to continuing to work with students, staff and parents in 2021. I wish you all a happy and safe holiday season.

Message from Chappy
This year has certainly been a year of change, overcoming and adapting.
Christmas and the long awaited holidays are not far away. The shopping centres have their Christmas displays of tinsel, flashing fairy lights and the promise of an early Christmas bargain.
We can so often get caught up in all the commercial hype but the Christmas message is about promise, peace and love to all mankind.
A global pandemic brought fear, uncertainty, restrictions and lockdowns. It has perhaps taught us there is always something and someone bigger than us and that we can be limited by a change of circumstances.
If the COVID 19 pandemic has taught us anything, it has taught us to be still, to find new ways of doing things, to value family, to appreciate the simple things of life, to appreciate our lives and what blessings we have.
My Christmas message to you all is to embrace the promise, peace and love that is given to all as a gift from God. Be kind to others and yourself and ‘be still’ and know that life is good and a blessing to take in every day.
Have a refreshed break and be proud of all you have accomplished in 2020.
