Principal's Message
Welcome to our Week 8 newsletter. Hang in there....we're almost finished, but please read through our newsletter, to make sure you don't miss a thing!
2024 Class allocation
Parents and students will receive their class allocation for 2024 next week, Week 9 - Friday 1 December.
As with any release of information some students and parents may be pleased or disappointed with the situation they are placed in.
If you strongly object to either the teacher placement or their peers, you are requested to put your request in writing and outline the EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES that would deem it necessary to move classes.
Please forward your requests to The Principal by Friday, 8 December and mark your correspondence PRIVATE and CONFIDENTIAL. A decision will be made on all requests the week before school begins so new enrolments can be taken into account. No early decisions will be made.
Please be aware that these lists are only DRAFT and the final class lists, teachers and rooms will only be finalised in 2024 after Day 8.
Year 6 Graduation
The Year 6 Graduation will be held on Monday 4 December, 6.30pm at Kirwan High School's Excelsior Centre. A reminder that students with outstanding SRS fees will not be receiving an invitation to the graduation unless other financial arrangements have been made.
Please find attached, the information letter that was sent home with students.
Prep in 2024 - Limited spaces available
If your child will be attending Cranbrook State School in 2024, you will need to ensure that the following tasks are completed as soon as possible to allow for class placement for 2024 to occur.
- Complete the enrolment form
- Bring your child’s original birth certificate to the school so we can process your child’s enrolment.
Prep Transition Program
It's not too late to join us!
Our Prep Transition Program will run for just two more weeks: Thursday 30 November and Thursday 7 December, 8 - 9.40am.
Don't miss this chance for both you and your child, to experience our school and become comfortable before the start of the year. Please call our office to book your spot.
Supporting Positive Transitions to Prep
There are many ways a parent or carer can help their child transition from home or kindy to school.
Take a look at the short video from the Department of Education, 'Early Childhood and Community Engagement - Advice to Parents from Carla' and 'Early Childhood and Community Engagement - Principal Daniel Evans'. This video is one of several videos on the Early Childhood Education and Care website, designed to assist families, early education and care services and schools to support positive transitions to Prep.
Taking 2024 Enrolments now
Enrolments for all year levels are now open. An enrolment form can be downloaded from this newsletter or our website, and parents are welcome to pick up an enrolment pack from our front office.
Finance Reminder
Due to all receipting closing from 3:00pm on Friday, 1st December it would be appreciated if all 2023 payments could be made prior to this time.
Money can still be taken after this close-off point, but only handwritten receipts will be available.
All SRS fees are well overdue and parents/caregivers are reminded that payment needs to be finalised (or payment plan arranged with the Business Manager) if students are wanting to participate in any extra-curricular activities such as swimming, graduation, sport, live performances.
2024 Year 7 State School's Transition Day
On Wednesday, 29 November, Year 6 students attending State high schools in 2024, participate in a transition day at the high school they are enrolled in. Please note that your child must be enrolled at the high school, in order to attend. This is a really valuable opportunity for students and one that they will really enjoy and appreciate.
Breakfast Club will cease on Friday 1 December (Week 9) and will recommence in Week 2 of 2024. A big thank you to everyone who has donated food items and helped throughout the year (including our students). Breakfast Club is a wonderful service for the Cranbrook Community and is gratefully supported by NQ Food Relief.
Have a great weekend everyone!

2024 SRSS
School Resource and Stationery Scheme (SRSS)
At the P&C Meeting on Wednesday 15th November the P&C endorsed the 2024 Student Resource and Stationery Scheme as per below.
The P&C also voted to continue the early payment and sibling discounts and added an option for financially disadvantaged families, aswell. To be eligible for the financially disadvantaged payment a Healthcare Concession Card / Family Tax Benefit B information must be provided to the school office.
For 2024, there is no longer an option for BYOD, however, we have introduced an option for ownership of a school ipad/laptop, at certain intervals. More information is available in the documents below.
A snapshot of the costings is below, with further detailed information available to view via the links below. We strongly encourage you to read through the details, so you are able to make an informed decision for your child in Years Prep to 2 and understand what's included for Years 3 to 6.
Every Day Counts - Attendance
Regular, punctual attendance at school is expected of all students. Students should be present at school ready to prepare for the day's learning by 8:30am.
Late Arrivals
Students arriving after 8:50am must report to the office to receive a lateslip. If a student is late, a letter of explanation from the student's parent/guardian must be presented to the office staff on arrival.
Absence
If a student is absent and the parent/guardian has not notified the school, they will receive an automated text message by 10am that day.
Parents will receive a text message informing them that their child is absent. If you receive one of these text messages, please contact the school to explain the reason for your child’s absence.
A working mobile number should be registered with the school, if available.
Please remember that absence is only marked for the days specified by the parents. If you ring up on a Monday informing that your child is sick and they remain away from school for the following 2 days because they are sick you need to inform us that this was the reason for their absence. You can inform us after the absence via a message directly to the teacher or by contacting our absence hotline or email.
If your child is absent, please leave a message detailing:
- Child's name
- Class
- Reason for absence
- Dates or duration of absence

Sports News
Last Friday a number of year 5 & 6 Cranbrook students competed at the NQ Mixed Touch Gala Day. After a strong showing throughout the round games beating Currajong 6-2, losing narrowly 2-3 against Hermit Park and winning 5-2 against Weir, Cranbrook SS progressed through to the semi-finals. In what was an excellent game of touch between two quality teams Cranbrook were unfortunately defeated 1-2 by Belgian Gardens. The team played well and improved throughout the carnival making it an enjoyable day for all.
Today, students from Years 4, 5 & 6, represented our school at the Netball Carnival. Our Year 4 team did very well, only loosing one game and our mixed senior team also did well, with a few wins and a few losses. All the students agreed it was a hot but fun day!
Congratulations to Lockhart and Anastasia Brown - both students represented Townsville the other day in the Dressage for the RDA (Riding for Disability Assoc). They both rode really, really well, but have to wait for the judges' final feedback, to see their results.
There was no HPE Class of the Week for Week 7, however, for Week 8, it was congratulations to 1A for their incredible dribbling skills!
.....but sadly we didn't get a photo.
Swimming Lessons
Don't forget that swimming lessons start this Monday! It could be worth packing an extra item or two in students' lunch boxes - they'll use a lot of extra energy this week!

Don't forget to contact us about our Holiday Program!
Please see attached, our latest newsletter. Have a great weekend!
From Chappy Tim
Hi everyone.
Don't forget that we will be organising Christmas hampers for our community again this year. We have given a suggested list of items - items that will create a wonderful Christmas lunch for families. Please return your donations to school as soon as you can and definitely by Friday, 1 December.
Many thanks in advance, for your generosity and willingness to support others at this time of year.
Chappy Tim.
Outgrown uniforms anyone?
Have your children grown out of their uniforms? Are you looking to spruce them up and get some new uniforms for next year and are wondering what you could do with your old ones? We would really appreciate your unwanted uniforms in order to provide for any of our Cranbrook families who may need a helping hand. We are in need of shorts especially. Please consider if you are able to be generous in this way - the office will gratefully take them off your hands! Thank you.
Bus Service
We are now accepting applications for our 2024 School Bus Collection Service.
Did you know that we offer a pick up/drop off bus service each morning and afternoon? Thanks to our amazing P&C group, who saw the need for us to assist every one of our Cranbrook families, a bus was purchased (and later another one!) and is now used for excursions, sporting events, arts events and to help our families get our students to and from school.
Current users will receive preference and then all applications within our zones, will be considered on a 'first come - first served' basis. A two week deposit is required by everyone, to secure your child's position for 2024. To maintain your position on the bus throughout the year, your account must remain in credit. Parents will be advised if their child's collection service will cease due to a $0.00 credit amount.
Please contact our office if you require any further information.
If you are interested in accessing this service for your child, please complete the form (PDF below) and return to the office.
