Cranbrook Newsletter - 2023 Term 4 Week 10
Principal's Message
We made it! The year has flown by and our students are all just that little bit older and a little bit wiser! I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and safe Christmas break. Looking forward to seeing you again on Monday, 22 January 2024.
2024 Class allocation
Parents and students received their class allocation for 2024 last week and had their transition session with their new class and for most, their new teacher on Monday.
As with any release of information some students and parents may be pleased or disappointed with the situation they are placed in.
If you strongly object to either the teacher placement or their peers, you are requested to put your request in writing and outline the EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES that would deem it necessary to move classes.
Please forward your requests to The Principal today and mark your correspondence PRIVATE and CONFIDENTIAL. A decision will be made on all requests the week before school begins so new enrolments can be taken into account. No early decisions will be made.
Please be aware that these lists are only DRAFT and the final class lists, teachers and rooms will only be finalised in 2024 after Day 8.
Report Cards Issued
Semester 2 Report Cards were issued to students on Thursday afternoon and a copy has been emailed to parents.
Student Resource Scheme 2024
Thank you to those parents who have made a decision regarding the Student Resource and Stationery Scheme for 2024.
For those parents who have decided to participate in 2024 by signing the SRSS form and making the payment, congratulations to you, as you have already fulfilled your parental responsibility to provide the required resources for your child’s education. Our school will ensure they have all the required equipment the entire year.
For those parents who have decided to opt out of the scheme AND have returned the Participation Form informing us of that, congratulations to you, as you have taken the first step and you now only need to source the listed resources. Please ensure when you are purchasing the consumable and non-consumable items to clearly mark your child’s name on their belongings as these will be needed every year. For any items that are missing we will contact you on the first day to ensure you can source these before the next day of school so your child can have access to all the resources they require. Your teachers will no doubt be in regular contact throughout the year so you can supply further resources when your child uses the current resources or loses them. If parents don’t supply the consumable items in a timely manner the school will provide your child with the resources and invoice parents the appropriate retail price as listed in our School Resource and Stationery Scheme documentation (details can be found on our website).
For those parents who forget to opt in or out of the School Resource and Stationery Scheme by completing a Participation Form AND/OR have forgotten to pay the SRSS Fees, our office will be open from Monday 15 January for you to complete this. Don't forget that the Qkr! app is always an option for payment also. If not, you will be contacted on the first day to make the appropriate arrangements by the end of the day so your child can access the classroom with their peers with the required resources for learning.
Below is further information and a snapshot of the various cost options. Parents are expected to have paid the fees (part (50%) or full) on the first day of school OR ensure that their child has all the required stationery and resources ready to start school.
Prep in 2024 - Limited spaces available
If your child will be attending Cranbrook State School in 2024, you will need to ensure that the following tasks are completed as soon as possible to allow for class placement for 2024 to occur.
- Complete the enrolment form
- Bring your child’s original birth certificate to the school so we can process your child’s enrolment.
Taking 2024 Enrolments
Enrolments for all year levels are now open. An enrolment form can be downloaded from this newsletter or our website, and parents are welcome to pick up an enrolment pack from our front office.
See you in 2024!
Jeff Capell - Principal

As there were a lot of events and a lot of photos to sort through, we will publish a special
'photos edition' newsletter next week.
Coming up....
School resumes again on Monday, 22 January, 2024.
2024 SRSS
School Resource and Stationery Scheme (SRSS)
At the P&C Meeting on Wednesday 15th November the P&C endorsed the 2024 Student Resource and Stationery Scheme as per below.
The P&C also voted to continue the early payment and sibling discounts and added an option for financially disadvantaged families, aswell. To be eligible for the financially disadvantaged payment a Healthcare Concession Card / Family Tax Benefit B information must be provided to the school office.
For 2024, there is no longer an option for BYOD, however, we have introduced an option for ownership of a school ipad/laptop, at certain intervals. More information is available in the documents below.
A snapshot of the costings is below, with further detailed information available to view via the links below. We strongly encourage you to read through the details, so you are able to make an informed decision for your child in Years Prep to 2 and understand what's included for Years 3 to 6.
Qkr! app update
We understand that some of our families have been experiencing problems using the Qkr! app on newer phone models. We have contacted Mastercard who have advised us that Stage 1 is complete and the technicians are continuing to work on the next stage.
They do apologise and will advise us when the work is complete.
In the meantime, you can still access the app. via computer/laptop, using the following link: https://qkr-store.qkrschool.com/store/#/home
Every Day Counts - Attendance
Regular, punctual attendance at school is expected of all students. Students should be present at school ready to prepare for the day's learning by 8:30am.
Late Arrivals
Students arriving after 8:50am must report to the office to receive a lateslip. If a student is late, a letter of explanation from the student's parent/guardian must be presented to the office staff on arrival.
Absence
If a student is absent and the parent/guardian has not notified the school, they will receive an automated text message by 10am that day.
Parents will receive a text message informing them that their child is absent. If you receive one of these text messages, please contact the school to explain the reason for your child’s absence.
A working mobile number should be registered with the school, if available.
Please remember that absence is only marked for the days specified by the parents. If you ring up on a Monday informing that your child is sick and they remain away from school for the following 2 days because they are sick you need to inform us that this was the reason for their absence. You can inform us after the absence via a message directly to the teacher or by contacting our absence hotline or email.
If your child is absent, please leave a message detailing:
- Child's name
- Class
- Reason for absence
- Dates or duration of absence
Absence Hotline - 4726 1260
Absence Email - absences@cranbrookss.eq.edu.au
Positive Behaviour for Learning
For Week 9, our PBL lesson was about being respectful and making sure we respect others' privacy and property.
In Week 10, we focused on being resilient - a much needed skill at the end of the year!
Here are the flyers with some handy hints with what and how to chat about this at home.

From the Resource Centre
Congratulations to our students who have recorded 250 nights of reading this year!!!
Well done to Jane, Tabitha, Muay and Hunter. Each student had the privilege of choosing a book as their prize for this amazing achievement.
A special mention to Jane, for earning this prize every single year she has been at Cranbrook, that is Prep through to Year 6!
Book Club
Have you ordered items through Book Club over the past several years? It's such a great service, but did you know it is completely run by a volunteer parent?
The beautiful Hayley Mckaskill has been quietly behind the scenes, collating and distributing orders for many years. With her last child graduating Year 6 this year, Hayley is now stepping down from the role.
We did a quick little interview with Hayley - read what she has to say about being a Cranbrook Mum and Book Club co-ordinator:
How long have you been a Cranbrook Mum? I have been a Cranbrook Mum for 12 years, since 2011. My three children, Amie, Eden & Owen have all been Cranbrook kids! My husband was even a Cranbrook kid once upon a time!
Why did you take on the Book Club Co-ordinator's role? I loved getting bookclub so much when I was a child, so I was happy to help!
What have you enjoyed about this role? I love seeing the children get excited about books & reading. The young kids with their fun rhyming stories but especially the big kids, it's great to see them still so keen to read and dive into the pages for new adventures!
Did your children like you being around and doing this role? My kids have spent time with me in the office helping with bookclub. The thing they've enjoyed most is seeing their teachers in the staff room, I think they felt a little bit sneaky and funny!
Will you miss Cranbrook? Cranbrook has been part of our family life for so long, it will feel strange not coming in anymore. I will definitely miss the school and the smiley faces we are so used to seeing regularly!
Hayley, we have really appreciated you doing this for us. You and your family have been such a big part of our Cranbrook community and fetes, especially, will never be the same without you! Thank you very much and all the best!
Hayley now hands over the reins to Sheena - we'll meet Sheena in one of our newsletters next year!

From Chappy Tim
A huge thanks to our very loving school community, who, together with Anne Street Gospel Chapel and Willows Presbyterian Church, gave generously to support our hampers this year. Over 30 hampers were given to our Cranbrook families.
The hampers were well received and below I'll share a couple of the comments, just so you know just how much it meant to people.
Look for God's blessings this Christmas. I look forward to seeing you again next year.
Chappy Tim.
Just wanted to say a thank you to the community, my daughter and I got a hamper from the school that will come in really handy over the Christmas break. Really blown away by the charity of the community, so a really big thank you.
I was another who received a hamper. So grateful to the Cranbrook School and community for an amazing year and then topped off with this totally unexpected and much appreciated hamper for myself and grandson. It will contribute greatly to our Christmas.
Outgrown uniforms anyone?
Have your children grown out of their uniforms? Are you looking to spruce them up and get some new uniforms for next year and are wondering what you could do with your old ones? We would really appreciate your unwanted uniforms in order to provide for any of our Cranbrook families who may need a helping hand. We are in need of shorts especially. Please consider if you are able to be generous in this way - the office will gratefully take them off your hands! The office will be open again on Monday 15 January to receive them. Thank you.
Bus Service
We are now accepting applications for our 2024 School Bus Collection Service.
Did you know that we offer a pick up/drop off bus service each morning and afternoon? Thanks to our amazing P&C group, who saw the need for us to assist every one of our Cranbrook families, a bus was purchased (and later another one!) and is now used for excursions, sporting events, arts events and to help our families get our students to and from school.
Current users will receive preference and then all applications within our zones, will be considered on a 'first come - first served' basis. A two week deposit is required by everyone, to secure your child's position for 2024. To maintain your position on the bus throughout the year, your account must remain in credit. Parents will be advised if their child's collection service will cease due to a $0.00 credit amount.
Please contact our office if you require any further information.
If you are interested in accessing this service for your child, please complete the form (PDF below) and return to the office.
Staff Goodbyes
Sadly, the end of the year also means saying goodbye to several of our staff members.
We thank them for their contribution to our school and we will miss them a lot! All the very best in their new ventures to:
