Principal's Message
Welcome to our Week 2 Newsletter!
We encourage you to read through carefully to ensure you don’t miss any important updates or upcoming events.
Important Reminder – Parking and Student Safety
The school has recently received a complaint from a nearby resident regarding unsafe and illegal parking during student drop-off and pick-up times. This includes parents stopping on or just before the pedestrian crossing, as well as parking in restricted or unsafe areas.
These actions not only inconvenience our neighbours but, more importantly, place our students and families at risk. Ensuring the safety of every child in our school community must remain our top priority.
As a result, Townsville City Council enforcement officers will be conducting patrols over the coming weeks. Their focus will be to ensure compliance with parking laws and to help maintain a safe environment around our school.
Officers will be monitoring for the following:
Parking across or blocking driveways
Parking too close to intersections or areas that obstruct visibility
Parking in “No Standing” or restricted zones
We urge all parents and carers to follow road rules and model safe, responsible behaviour when dropping off and collecting students. Your cooperation helps keep all children safe.
About Prep
Queensland children are required to undertake Prep prior to Year 1. Prep is a full-time program that children attend from Monday to Friday during normal school hours, generally from 9am to 3pm.
To be eligible for Prep, children must be aged 5 years by 30 June in the year they start Prep.
Prep is the start of the early stage of learning which continues until Year 2. It is available in all Queensland state schools and most non-state schools offering a primary program.
Prep is part of the whole school. Classrooms and other facilities are located in school grounds.
Prep provides the foundation for your child's success at school by developing:
- the knowledge, understanding and skills detailed in the Australian Curriculum for English, mathematics, science and history (Foundation Year)
- a positive approach to learning
- independence and confidence
- creativity and problem-solving skills
- physical abilities, including gross and fine motor skills.
In Prep, teachers support children's learning by making connections between school and their experiences at home, kindergarten or childcare.

We also encourage you to follow our school’s Facebook page, where we share multiple posts daily about upcoming events and activities.
If you are not receiving any emails from us, please contact us at communications@cranbrookss.eq.edu.au so we can assist.
‼️Reminder – Collecting Students Early / Appointments‼️
To help reduce interruptions to learning and phone calls to the front office, please follow the process below if your child needs to leave school early for an appointment or other reason:
- Do not phone ahead to request your child be sent to the office.
- On arrival at the front office, our staff will provide you with an Early Departure Slip.
- Take this slip to your child’s classroom and collect them directly from there.
This process helps minimise disruption to classrooms and allows our office staff to continue supporting the whole school efficiently.
We thank all families for their understanding and cooperation.

Exciting News – Our New School Bus!
We’re thrilled to share that Cranbrook State School has recently purchased a brand-new school bus! With 30 seats available, we can now accommodate more students for our morning and afternoon pick-up and drop-off service.

Every Day Counts - Attendance ✔✔✔
Regular, punctual attendance at school is expected of all students.
Students should be present at school ready to prepare for the day's learning by 8:30am.

Late Arrivals
Students arriving after 8:50am must report to the office to receive a lateslip. If a student is late, a letter of explanation from the student's parent/guardian must be presented to the office staff on arrival.
Absence
If a student is absent and the parent/guardian has not notified the school, they will receive an automated text message by 10am that day.
Parents will receive a text message informing them that their child is absent. If you receive one of these text messages, please contact the school to explain the reason for your child’s absence.
A working mobile number should be registered with the school, if available.
Please remember that absence is only marked for the days specified by the parents. If you ring up on a Monday informing that your child is sick and they remain away from school for the following 2 days because they are sick you need to inform us that this was the reason for their absence. You can inform us after the absence via a message directly to the teacher or by contacting our absence hotline or email.
If your child is absent, please leave a message detailing:
- Child's name
- Class
- Reason for absence
- Dates or duration of absence
Absence Hotline - 4726 1260
Absence Email - absences@cranbrookss.eq.edu.au

Class Borrowing Days
For students in Prep / Year 1 / Year 2 / Year 3…..you must have a library bag to protect your books.
It is very important that books are returned every week.
Students are not allowed to borrow more books until any outstanding ones are returned.
Please return your child’s home reader and library books on the following days:

The Cranbrook Community Hub 👋

The Hub is our adult space. We want our parents/carers to use it for what they need – a bit of rest and respite, a place to safely talk, where to go to meet up with fellow class families and to meet new ones, a place to enjoy activities you may not ordinarily do.
Hi everyone and welcome back!
We have reintroduced our 'Coffee and Chat' sessions this term. Come and join us for a coffee, a piece of cake and a good old bit of conversation! Did I mention we have barista coffee???
On Wednesdays, we have introduced our Nudge Sessions. These are weekly sessions that look at some of life's everyday topics, with the aim of giving us a little nudge in the right direction. This Wednesday will be a session presented by Hannah, an Associate of Wilson/Ryan/Grose Solicitors, on the topic of Wills. Hannah is not there to make us sign on the dotted line and create a Will there and then, but to talk through the pros and cons of having a Will. Keep an eye on our weekly updates, to know what other topics we will be presenting each week.
Playgroup is back in The Hub (not OSHC) on Thursday mornings, starting at 9am and going through to 10.30am. Any family with children not yet at school, are welcome to join us.
Have a question? Please feel free to contact me, Louise, as follows: communityhub@cranbrookss.eq.edu.au / 0477004723

Honouring two decades of advocacy |
Today we unveil ‘Don’t Waste It’ - The Daniel Morcombe Story, a powerful documentary film reflecting on two decades of child safety advocacy from The Daniel Morcombe Foundation. This powerful 30-minute documentary honours Daniel’s legacy and educates teens on personal safety. This film is quite different to all the others we regularly share with you. Heritage Films has had the honour to produce Don't Waste It as part of the Foundation’s incredible 20-year celebrations. What an incredible legacy and what a wonderful way to honour Daniel, Bruce and Denise and the Foundation’s legacy for the way they have tirelessly worked to keep children safe.
